Decarbonizing the economy requires a granular real-time view of where emissions come from and how they might be reduced. Weve built software to automate the carbon footprinting of supply chains so their emissions can be measured and managed down. Banks traders and manufacturers use our product to tame the complexity of international supply networks identify the most carbon-intensive parts and find greener alternatives. Having developed technology which is significantly ahead of other solutions we are now investing heavily in market adoption.
To join CarbonChain youll need a proven career path in software engineering building great products that delight customers. Our company is made up of passionate people with expertise ranging from oil refining to deep learning but we know that theres a lot we dont know and were hoping you can help fill that gap.
About the Role
Were looking for a highly motivated and experiencedBackend Python Engineerto help scale our product infrastructure and core data pipelines. Youll play a key role in shaping the technical foundation of our platform and working with a collaborative team of engineers product managers and sustainability experts.
What Youll Do
- Design and implement robust scalable backend services usingPython (FastAPI preferred).
- Build and maintain core APIs that power customer workflows and third-party integrations.
- Work with data engineering to ingest transform and expose environmental and operational datasets.
- Ensure high system reliability and performance by writing testable and maintainable code.
- Collaborate closely with the product and design teams to iterate quickly on features.
- Implement best practices for code quality CI/CD observability and infrastructure-as-code.
- Participate in technical architecture discussions and make foundational decisions.
Requirements
- 4 years of backend engineering experience with a strong focus onPython.
- Proficient in developing RESTful APIs and integrating with external services.
- Solid experience withPostgreSQLDocker and cloud platforms.GCP preferred.
- Familiarity with distributed systems background processing (e.g. Celery) and message queues (e.g. PubSub).
- Experience working in early-stage startups or fast-paced environments.
- A product-minded approach: you think about how your work impacts users.
- Passion for climate solutions and a genuine interest in sustainability.
- An ability to work in our London office 3 days per week in Camden Market
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with data-intensive applications or carbon accounting platforms.
- Knowledge of carbon footprint methodologies or ESG reporting.
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical blogs.
