Job Description

Corn Sorter


Job Purpose:

As a Corn Sorter, you will safely sort corn removing any discard (waste, etc) and returning cobs needing re-husking appropriately. Move only undamaged seed forward in the drying process to increase quality and decrease amount of foreign material moving into dryers. Working safely is a requirement of the position.

Duties are as follows but not limited to:

  • Abide by safety policies/procedures and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while completing any and all work on property
  • Abide by lock out/tag out, E-Stop and other equipment safety policies/processes
  • Maintain cleanliness of work environment (sweeping, removing debris etc) in work area as workload allows and as required
  • Sort corn to maintain quality of seed
  • Identify off-type ears, wet or immature ear, moldy ear, insect damage, husk ribbon, rogue ears, crop debris and junk
  • Sort discard/waste and re-husk as corn passes on conveyor belt and distribute to proper locations for next actions
  • Work from a standing or elevated seat position in front of a moving conveyor belt (mounted safely within a table surface) for the duration of shift
  • Assist with kernel cleaning process when materials change
  • Report any accidents, near miss incidents or safety violations; and bring any issues, potential hazards or concerns to attention of Team Leader, Production Shift Supervisor or Safety Supervisor as soon as possible, no later than the end of your shift
  • Participate in any incident/accident investigations with Corteva Safety/Supervisor teams as necessary to find root cause of incidents
  • Maintain cleanliness of break rooms by cleaning up after yourself and following posted expectations


Applicable Skills/Experience:

  • Work with hands at a quick pace
  • Stand or sit on elevated chair for duration of shift
  • Work from a moving conveyor belt (mounted safely within a table surface) for the duration of your shift


Equipment/Attire Requirement:

  • Long pants (no capri's)
  • Shirt with sleeves, minimum to cover shoulder (no loose clothing)
  • Closed toe/Closed heel shoes
  • Safety eyewear (provided)
  • General Purpose Gloves (provided)


Physical Task Requirements:

  • Ability of sitting/standing for extended periods
  • Potential exposure to plant allergens such as Corn Dust


Additional Details:

  • Regular and reliable attendance is a requirement of the position
  • Transportation to and from assignment location is the responsibility of the worker
  • Must abide by site seatbelt policy ? seatbelts must be worn in all motor vehicles on Corteva property
  • The use of mobile phones and/or other portable electronic devices by an individual operating a vehicle is permissible when it is done with hands-free technology. Only use mobile phones and/or other portable electronic devices with hands-free technology (i.e., only by voice commands or single-touch activation without holding the device).
  • Cellular phone/mobile device (including iPods/MP3 players) are not allowed in working areas during work time
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the working area
  • Park only in marked and appropriate areas as directed by Corteva
  • Corteva is a smoke-free workplace
