The Director of Music Program Development is a key member of the Territorial Music Department primarily responsible for the development of music leaders the creation and distribution of educational resources and the strategic use of social media to support and promote music ministry. A significant aspect of this role includes the management and development of one of the USA Eastern Territorys premier music ensembles helping to shape its artistic direction and spiritual impact. While collaborating with the broader team the Director will help equip
and inspire local music leaders across the territory with the goal of establishing a vibrant music presence in every corps.
Located in West Nyack New York this position requires approximately 35 hours of work per week and is onsite.
Leader & Educational Resource Development
Collaborate with Divisional Music Directors (DMDs) and the Lay Leadership Department to design and implement leadership development days and training courses aimed at equipping current and future corps music leaders.
Lead the development of a comprehensive online leadership training program providing essential educational tools and resources for prospective music leaders at the corps level featuring instruction from qualified territorial experts.
Oversee the creation of a structured virtual lesson curriculum offering instruction in piano guitar percussion and brass instruments designed to build foundational skills and support local music ministry.
Territorial Music Ensemble Manager
Develop and maintain the ensembles annual schedule overseeing all logistics and details related to rehearsals performances and special events.
Coordinate and facilitate ensemble board or planning meetings ensuring clear and timely communication with all members.
Serve as coordinator for related initiatives such as Future All-Stars or Singing Stars including the development of annual audition materials managing the audition process acting as student liaison and organizing event committees.
Participate in all planning committees related to the ensembles short- and long-term engagements contributing to the vision direction and execution of its ministry.
Digital Media & Communications
Lead the development and maintenance of the Territorial Music Departments and ensembles digital presence including websites and all major social media platforms.
Create and implement a cohesive social media strategy that promotes the mission programs and events of the Territorial Music Department and its ensembles expanding reach and engagement across the territory and beyond.
Collaborate with team members to produce high-quality contentsuch as photos videos announcements and live updatesthat reflect the spiritual and musical goals of the department.
Provide on-site social media coverage at Territorial music events ensuring real-time updates audience engagement and post-event content delivery.
Monitor analytics to assess the effectiveness of social media efforts adjust strategies as needed and report key insights to leadership for continuous improvement.
Kroc Center Support
Assist with coordinating Territorial Music Department visits to Kroc Centers and offer general support to enhance local music ministry efforts.
Provide input on music staffing needs including job descriptions and occasional involvement in the hiring process for Music Directors.
Collaborate with the THQ Kroc Office to explore funding opportunities and highlight notable music activities through territorial media channels.
Territorial Music Events
Territorial Star Search: Play an active role in the planning and execution of this major annual event helping to ensure a smooth and impactful experience for all participants.
Divisional Music Director Meetings: Contribute meaningfully to the planning and strategic direction of music ministry in the territory through active participation in committee meetings and related initiatives.
Star Lake Music Camp: Assist in the overall organization of the camp while serving as one of the program Coordinatorsresponsible for overseeing programming instruction and performance.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide graphic design for the Music Department Events and Territorial Music Ensembles as requested.
Participate in or assist Territorial Music Ensembles as assigned by the Territorial Music Secretary (ETSS NYSB UnBound).
Serve as a member of the following committees/staffs:
o Territorial Music Committee
o Territorial Music Camp Staff
o Others as assigned or requested through the Territorial Music Secretary
Other projects/responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelors Degree
5-7 years of related experience
Must be organized and be able to organize groups of people
Must be able to work in a high volume fast-paced office that often deals with multiple projects and deadlines
Must be a self-starter and be able to work on their own to complete projects
Must be able to lead both brass and vocal ensembles and give instruction in all musical mediums
Must be an active uniform wearing Salvationist
