Job Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION: To assist the district librarian students and staff in all areas essential to the operation of the library media center.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:Building Principal and District Librarian

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed at least 2 years of study (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits) at an institution of higher education OR obtained an associates (or higher) degree OR completed one of the following: ETS ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher Pearson Paraprofessional assessment or Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
  • Experience working in a positive manner with students in classroom size groups small groups and individually

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training and/or experience in library science
  • Experience in a school library media setting
  • Current knowledge of age-appropriate literature

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Deliver instruction designed by district librarian
  • Manage whole class student groups in a positive learning environment
  • Perform routine library functions
  • Operate computers and other library technologies
  • Understand and troubleshoot library and other educational software
  • Process new library materials
  • Re-shelve repair and inventory library collection
  • Support students and staff in use of library resources
  • Promote reading age-appropriate literature both fiction and nonfiction
  • Assist with general student supervision duties (i.e. playground)
  • Orally interpret age-appropriate literature in dramatic way
  • Be a positive advocate and support the direction/mission of the library media program
  • Upgrade library technology skills on a regular basis
  • Attend to detail organize and perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply basic library organization systems
  • Positively and proactively manage students behavior
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff parents community members other agencies)
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance actions decisions and overall performance
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: Classified Library Paraeducator $24.99 - $30.38/hour
  • Length of Contract: 7.0 hours/day (7:50 a.m. 3:20 p.m.) 180 days/year plus three additional district directed days
  • Benefits/Leaves: Medical dental vision life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Paraeducators Association (PPA) and the Pullman School District (PPA Bargaining Agreement).
