TechTown is Wayne States entrepreneurship hub. We empower Detroit-based startups and local businesses by providing resources collaborative workspace and education for entrepreneurs that will further accelerate inclusive economic development across Detroit.


About the Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and organized Director of Collaborative Workspace and Facilities to oversee the daily operations of our coworking space. This role combines hospitality operations and community engagement with responsibilities that include managing member relationships coordinating events handling leasing and occupancy and ensuring the facility is well-maintained and running smoothly. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills and a passion for creating a welcoming professional and vibrant environment for entrepreneurs remote workers and growing businesses.


The Impact You Will Make:

  • Lead the continued strategic development and ongoing execution of TechTowns collaborative workspace activity including office leasing coworking memberships and event management with an emphasis on the customer experience.
  • Manage team of Collaborative Workspace/Membership and Facilities staff.
  • Develop authentic familiarity with TechTown members and tenants and foster a variety of opportunities for them to engage communicate and offer feedback.
  • Establish and monitor progress toward membership occupancy and visitor goals; revenue targets; marketing metrics; and other key performance indicators.
  • Maintain awareness of trends and best practices in coworking and entrepreneur-focused spaces.
  • Collaborate with TechTown Programs team to ensure that the best possible programs and events are being executed.
  • Collaborate with TechTown Digital Solutions team to effectively organize and track collaborative workspace-related data and improve team systems.
  • Collaborate with TechTown Marketing and Communications team to establish and execute a robust marketing plan for our site-based offerings.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the building maintenance team ensuring high standards of performance responsiveness and professionalism.
  • Develop and manage maintenance strategies preventative schedules and long-term facility improvement plans.
  • Monitor and manage facility-related budgets including forecasting cost controls and capital improvements.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance operations and team productivity.
  • Collaborate with leadership on facility upgrades renovations and operational improvements to enhance the occupant experience.
  • Resolve escalated maintenance issues efficiently providing guidance and resources to on-site teams.
  • Lead hiring training and professional development for maintenance and facilities personnel.
  • Ensure a safe clean and functional environment across all building areas to support business operations.
  • Director-level staff in all departments are expected to:
    • Prioritize the continued professional development of team members.
    • Lead development and execution of team strategy.
    • Create and manage a single department budget and oversee project budgets.
    • Support financial sustainability of all team activity and champion organizational fundraising efforts.
    • Represent the organization in external engagements (interviews public speaking panels etc.) and maintain relationships with regional entrepreneurial ecosystem partners.
Requirements

What You Will Bring to the Table:

  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in a related industry (i.e. hospitality coworking real estate facilities management retail nonprofit business) specifically including management of teams.
  • High standard of inclusive customer service.
  • Ability to identify and analyze industry trends and develop recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective budget management and contract/lease management.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High energy and ability to quickly establish rapport with TechTown tenants coworkers and guests.
  • Formal training and professional experience in building and cultivating successful working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural social economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Established network within the Detroit/Southeast Michigan nonprofit community is a plus.
  • Event management and coordination experience is a plus.
  • The candidate who is best suited for this role will:

Salary:

The budgeted salary range for this position starts at $95000 and may be adjusted according to qualifications and experience.
