Job Description

The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associate positions for theacademic year. Faculty Associates are part-time adjunct faculty who are hired on a one-semester renewable contract to teach one or two courses (not to exceed 0.40 FTE) per semester either in-person or online.

Faculty Associate positions are fixed-term appointments that are not eligible for benefits sabbaticals or tenure. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load. Official transcripts are required prior to employment. Individuals employed as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple non-benefits eligible appointments at Arizona State University.

For this position we seek to attract a pool of qualified people who are available to teach in-person and/or online courses on ASUs campus in Downtown Phoenix or Tempe who will teach one or two undergraduate or graduate courses in Tourism Development and Management and are content matter experts in the topic areas under consideration. The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) is one of the four schools in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions a vibrant community of scholars actively committed to excellence in education and innovative responses to collective problems. Watts College has a student body of over 6747 undergraduate and graduate Hospitality Leisure Sport and Tourism SCRD is ranked #7 in the world and #2 in the US according to the Center for World University Rankings.

SCRD is located at ASUs Downtown Phoenix campus a dynamic hub of the multi-campus Arizona State University that provides a multitude of academic and professional connections for students. The mission of our school is to co-create transformative solutions that enhance the social cultural environmental and economic well-being of communities. We provide internationally recognized interdisciplinary research expertise and innovative academic programs in community development therapeutic recreation nonprofit leadership and management parks recreation and sport management and tourism development and management. Courses are delivered through in-person online and hybrid platforms.

Job Responsibilities

The role requires someone who can deliver in-person (and/or online) lectures discussions and content contribute to the creation of assignments and exams evaluate and grade student work manage Canvas learning management platform and hold office hours to assist students. Local applicants are candidates to teach either online or in-person courses. Courses are developed and have been taught multiple times with a well-defined syllabus outlining purpose content readings and assignments. Local applicants may apply to teach either online or in-person courses. Worldwide applicants may apply to teach online courses.

Required Qualifications

An earned masters degree in tourism studies or a related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.

Three years of related experience (prior teaching and/or practitioner experience).

Consistent with ASUs Charter a demonstrated commitment to inclusion.

Desired Qualifications

Prior higher education teaching or guest lecturing experience preferred.

Experience facilitating student-led classroom and/or online discussions.

Prior online teaching experience.

Evidence of effective collaboration skills.

Experience with technology/course management systems.

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
