JOB TITLE:
Mechanic II Transit
This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyomings Employee Handbook. Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.
JOB PURPOSE:
Perform as advanced level transit mechanic. Perform intermediate to advanced diagnosis and repair of University of Wyoming transit buses. Serve as diesel technician. Assist in all other repairs and preventative maintenance as needed to include diagnostics electrical transmissions engines and rebuilds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspect test diagnose and repair diesel and/or gas vehicles and equipment. Inspect vehicle components parts and accessories to ensure safe operation that is compliant with all DOT FTA and ADA regulations. Adhere to safety and preventative maintenance standards and procedures.
Perform intermediate to advanced vehicle/equipment maintenance and repairs to transit fleet to include Gillig International buses foreign and domestic vehicles UTV and ATVs. Diagnose maintain test and repair fleet and/or vehicles to keep in optimum and safe conditions.
Read and interpret vehicle manuals and schematics to perform complex repairs/maintenance.
Repair and replace parts to resolve malfunctions; clean equipment/parts by washing with solvents soaps and water or steam cleaning; perform preventive maintenance on equipment/parts to ensure work-life and efficiency. Operate and test-drive vehicles.
Oversee the maintenance and organization of tools equipment and shop area to ensure optimal functionality availability and adherence to safety standards.
Compile and organize documentation including repair and maintenance logs and parts lists for submission to the supervisor to facilitate accurate entry into the work order management system.
Provide support to the supervisor by assisting with task assignments work scheduling parts procurement and work order supervisory responsibilities as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
Facilitate and manage communication with external service providers to ensure efficient coordination and resolution of service needs.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Address road call situations as required coordinating towing services arranging for bus replacements or facilitating field repairs to ensure timely resolutions.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Participate in performance-related goal setting and achievement to meet personal and organizational goals and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:High School diploma or GED Vocational School On-the-job experience or associates degree
Experience: 2-5 years minimum working experience
Required licensure certification registration or other requirements:
Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
Valid Class C drivers license with motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with University Vehicle Use Policy
Ability to obtain CDL Class B license within 12 months of hire
Ability to obtain First/Aid CPR certification within 12 months of hire
EPA Section 608 Certification
ASE Entry-Level Technician (Medium/Heavy Truck) includes the following:
ASE Brakes Certification
ASE Electrical Systems Certification
ASE Diesel Engines Certification
ASE Suspension & Steering Certification
ASE Inspection Maintenance and Minor Repair Certification
Must be able to pass all drug and/or alcohol screenings required by the UW Drug and Alcohol policy and applicable DOT regulations
