Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions
Demonstrates clinical knowledge of occupational health nursing and provides appropriate nursing care to clients served by the Employee Health Department.
- Follows established policies procedures and nursing protocols for the department.
- Completes post offer health examinations ensuring that all job requirements are met including immunizations are current obtains health history and consults with Workers compensation Case Manager regarding any orthopedic history or issues.
- Obtains all appropriate documentation (medical releases and prior immunizations) as appropriate prior to employee start date including consents and parental consents.
- Performs vision and color blind screening notifies employee and HR as necessary.
- Draws blood as needed for titers and screening.
- Notifies HR of employees status after completion of post offer health examinations maintaining confidentiality of the employee.
- Provides mask fits per OSHA regulations and policy.
- Utilizes assessment skills to determine clients ability to return to work after an illness.
- Collaborates with Workers Compensation Case Manager prior to approving return to work when necessary.
- Effectively assesses employee after an exposure and ensures follow up.
- Documents information ondepartment forms and in client records in a timely and complete manner with 100% accuracy.
- Utilizes assessment skills to determine clients injury and facilitate any needed medical treatment and informs Workers Compensation Case Manager.
- Schedules hearing testing as needed.
Performs drug testing according to protocol and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Completes chain of custody forms and consents completely and accurately.
- Communicates results to appropriate contact person if needed.
- Forwards forms and specimens to the proper resource when applicable.
- Current with DOT drug testing certification.
Provides follow-up care for a client involved in a blood/bodily fluid or contagious disease exposure.
- Determines the need for follow-up of exposures according to protocol and CDC regulations.
- Provide counseling specific to the clients needs regarding exposure.
- Ensures communication of lab results to client and sources physician when applicable.
Initiates action to correct prevent and/or minimize risk(s) to the client (i.e. injuries needle punctures).
- Completes report forms for employee injury/illness.
- Communicates to appropriate personnel regarding safety issues.
- Takes a pro-active role in injury/illness prevention and safety awareness.
- Educates clients as appropriate.
Provides excellent customer service to clients served by the Employee Health Department.
- Courteously answers phone and answers questions takes messages or forwards to an Employee Health nurse if necessary.
- Schedules appointments accurately and within department policy.
- Documents in the scheduler that the client was here for their scheduled appointment with 100% accuracy.
- Greets clients when they arrive communicates to clients in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ensures clients sign in on arrival with 100% accuracy.
- Responds to clients needs directed at meeting defined goals per departmental policy.
- Ensure that Release of Medical Information is obtained prior to releasing clients requested information.
- Prepares forms and paperwork required for physicals/appointments that have been scheduled and walk ins.
- Sends appropriate compliance forms to Human Resources for entry into Lawson.
- Prepares employee documents for scanning process.
- Monitors scanning process to achieve 100% accuracy.
- Sends correspondence to department supervisors and/or employees as needed.

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the client to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.
- Tailors education to fit client needs.
- Involves family or parent when necessary.
Promotes wellness activities for clients served by the department.
- Provides information to clients regarding wellness activities offered by the Health System.
- Encourages employees to have a primary physician.
- Provides blood pressure and glucose testing.
- Dispenses and documents over the counter medications per standing orders upon employee request.
- Coordinates annual flu clinics.
- Encourages use of the patient portal.

Job Requirements
Education
- Degree in nursing required.
- Bachelors Degree in nursing preferred.
Experience
- 2 years of medical/surgical experience required.
- 1 year occupational health emergency room clinic or school nursing experience preferred.
License/Certifications
- Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) License valid compact multi-state license to work in Nebraska or Iowa or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire required within 3 months of hire.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) Collector Certification preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Requires the ability to travel to other campus locations within a reasonable timeframe.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient level of experience with MS Office with Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint for communication and presentations.
- Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks problem-solve and prioritize work assignments to meet tight deadlines with little or no supervision.
- Skill and ability to provide a high level of compassion and quality care to staff and volunteers of MHS.
