Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $49.68 per hour.

This is a Contract position.


Our Capital Projects Group is looking a Project Coordinator Northern Corridors (i.e. for the Caledonia GO Station along the Barrie Go Line or anywhee else along the Barrie Corridor) on a contract basis. Under the guidance of the Project Manager you will coordinate the design and construction of assigned transit infrastructure projects in a safe timely consistent and cost-effective manner.

What will I be doing

  • Support the Project Manager in deliveringstation and track capitalinfrastructure projects within an active rail corridor and provide technical input through all stages from initial conception through design & construction including system assurance processes to commissioning and transfer to operations.
  • Oversee the project work of consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with Metrolinxs Engineering Standards Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements and internal user group requirements through all project stages such as the preparation of environmental assessment documents design proposals and reports accessibility reports contract specifications and drawings and construction administration and coordination.
  • Work collaboratively with team members project partners project management office sponsors Metrolinx stakeholders and contractors to address project issues to ensure projects are implemented consistently efficiently and safely in a coordinated manner.
  • Plan and report all capital project expenditures such as consultant or sub consultant and construction fees and addenda purchase orders construction contracts change orders and cost sharing agreements with public or private organizations.
  • Oversee engineering and/or architectural consultant services for the execution of infrastructure projects for new construction and alterations to existing fixed facilities.
  • Coordinate projects to minimize customer impacts ensure all internal and external approvals are obtained and that design and cost dispute resolution and timely completion within established budget and schedule restrictions are adhered to.
  • Works collaboratively with internal agencies to ensure that system assurance stage gates are met in accordance with Metrolinx policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate engineering projects with external agencies including the Railways to ensure compliance with legislation codes and the requirements of governing/regulatory authorities including the incorporation of external agency work within GO Engineering Projects.
  • Prepare and submit tender document specifications for construction and consultant contracts for submission to the Procurement team for tendering. Assists Procurement team during tendering by providing information to contractors and consultants.
  • Ensure project completion and commissioning for handover to user group.
  • Prepare performance evaluation for consultants and contractors. Also prepare project post evaluation reports including project cost analysis.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

  • A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience related to the planning design and construction of transit facilities interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and coordinating contracted engineering projects.
  • A Drivers Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate reflecting a class G license in good standing.
  • Regular site visits are required during working hours and occasional visits / working shifts during evenings weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of the theory principles and practices of civil engineering and architecture.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control scheduling codes standards specifications corporate procedures and applicable contract legislation.
  • Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
  • Site visits may involve exposure to different levels of construction at stations parking lots platforms and railway corridors along with climbing ladders and scaffolding and exposure to inclement weather.
  • Mental focus and hand-eye coordination required during construction site visits.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous environment as identified under OHSA (Ontario Health & Safety Act).
