High Point University is seeking a part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology. The course is a social science general education course and is scheduled to be taught three times in Fall 2025 Tu/Th at 9:45 1:35 and 3:30.
Introduction to Cultural Anthropology. Cultural anthropology is the comparative study of society culture and human diversity. This class will focus on the various ways that peoples146 lives are shaped by social relations history political economy and cultural this course anthropology will be explored through various readings from within the discipline as well as present a survey of the different theoretical approaches that anthropologists have taken in their studies of various cultures and societies. The course will introduce students to the areas of inquiry of cultural anthropology: family and social organization religion beliefs and rituals conflict social control exchange and transactions social suffering and healing globalization transformations of citizenship alterations in local worlds individual agency and social structure and other topics. This course will also serve to introduce students to ethnographic fieldwork methods and to the practice of anthropology. HPUnity General Education Markers: Social Science (SOSCI) and Diversity (DVSTY). Course also meets one Social Science for old gen ed curriculum. Four credits.
