Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Production the Lighting Technician joins a dynamic student-centered production team. The Lighting Technician is responsible for working electrics and projection calls assisting the Lighting Supervisor and maintaining lighting equipment for the Department of Theatre and Dance. A typical 14-week semester includes three mainstage productions three studio productions and class-based and student-led performance projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend all electric calls including hangs load-ins focuses and technical rehearsals.
Assist the Lighting Supervisor with scheduling students and crew for electric work calls.
Assist with electric support in all Theatre and Dance activities including class and production needs.
Assist the execution of projection technology including attendance at projections calls as scheduled.
Participate in venue improvement maintenance and repair in collaboration with the CART Performance Operations team.
Work proactively and cooperatively with other technical teams to ensure the success of productions.
Attend load-ins technical and dress rehearsals performances and strikes as scheduled including evenings and weekends.
Cultivate a positive and supportive learning environment for student designers and student technical workers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum one year of experience in theatrical electrics.
Familiarity with EOS lighting control systems board programming and dimming equipment.
Familiarity with intelligent lighting equipment.
Availability to work nights and weekends depending on the production schedule.
Ability to work at heights use aerial lifts and climb ladders.
Rigging and counterweight fly system proficiency.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Valid Drivers License and competency in driving a cargo van.
Experience ability and commitment to creating a working environment that is supportive open and respectful.
PREFERRED:
Two years of experience as a Head Electrician.
Experience with Projection equipment and installation.
Experience in an educational production environment and student mentorship.
General understanding of current best health and safety practice within the US Theatre Industry.
