As part of the at the University Hospital of Cologne a PhD position in the area of cancercell biology is immediately available.
The research fellow will be supervised by Dr. Marcel Mayer and Prof. Peter Klumann and will be embedded in the group for MolecularHead and Neck Oncology (Head: Prof. Dr. Julie George). The overall aimof our research is to study and elucidate the biological processes of cancer
and investigating the molecular adaptation of cancer to therapeuticresponses in head and neck cancer. Among head and neck cancerssalivary gland carcinomas are a heterogenous group of malignant tumorsof the major and minor salivary glands. The clinically and biologically most
aggressive entity is salivary duct carcinoma (SDC). Although targetedtherapies for SDC are available their efficacy is low as knowledge aboutthe relevant signaling pathways in this tumor is extrapolated from morefrequent tumors. Therefore this project focuses on better understandingsignaling of the already available pathways and finding new targetablealterations in SDC in order to ultimately translate these findings into clinics.
