Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer the Advanced Practice Nurse is responsible for assessment diagnosis and treatment of illnesses that occur consumers enrolled into the substance use program. The Advanced Practice Nurse will enter into a Collaborative Agreement with a psychiatrist and adhere to all regulatory requirements. The Advanced Practice Nurse will document in the clinical record in a timely manner and adhere to all consumer privacy and confidentiality practices.RESPONSIBILITIES:- Performs psychiatric evaluations by collecting adequate data in compliance with SERV standards.
- Diagnose and treat disorders and diseases of the mind. Perform diagnosis in accordance with accepted DSM-V and ASAM criteria.
- Treats mental disorders in accordance with accepted principles of psychiatric/nursing practices.
- Recommends and orders laboratory and other testing when indicated.
- Provides education and consultation to multidisciplinary treatment team members.
- Attends and participates in treatment team planning process when required.
- Enters into a Collaborative Agreement with physician as required. Regularly meetings with collaborating physician for case review and ongoing consultation.
- Completes progress notes in compliance with SERV policy and regulatory requirements.
- Provides support to the Medical Director for all required outpatient detoxification services in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Provides daily medical supervision of withdrawal including monitoring of withdrawal symptoms and vital signs.
- Participates in the development and oversight of agency policy and procedures related to detoxification and medical oversight.
- Orders medications as necessary and provides education to consumers on medication interactions and side effects.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:- Knowledge of current principles and practices of behavioral healthcare substance use and mentally ill.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND EXPERIENCE:- Minimum of a masters degree in nursing from an accredited Nursing program. Completion of a graduate level 3-credit course in Pharmacology from a school duly accredited by a national accrediting agency approved by the Board of Nursing; or a pharmacology course of at least 45 hours integrated into the Masters in Nursing program.
- Required to have at least two (2) years of direct experience in the treatment of substance abusing and dependent individuals including the provision of detoxification services.
- Certification as an APN via the New Jersey Board of Nursing. Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health APN.
- Valid drivers license in the state of residence.
- Must have New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substance (NJ CDS) and Drug Enforcement Administration Controlled Dangerous Substance (DEA CDS) certificate.
