Job Description
Reports To: OAC Principal
Duty Days: 201 Days
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: I01
Qualifications:
Masters degree in psychology social work guidance and counseling or related field preferred
Valid professional license/certification in school counseling social work or related field preferred
Ability to obtain LCDC preferred
Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers parents and students
Knowledge of local regional and state resources and ability to network with agencies
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies including interventions for students with chemical dependency problems
Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Primary Purpose:
Perform services necessary to help students resolve personal emotional and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their ability to enjoy a fulfilling life.
- Conduct group and individual counseling sessions to enhance social development of students and provide peer support in areas such as grief stress or chemical dependency.
- Assess needs and provide counseling to students and families individually in groups or during home visits regarding needed social emotional and developmental adjustments.
- Remain current on appropriate counseling practices related to chemical dependency.
- Serve as a liaison between student home school and community resources such as family service agencies child guidance clinics protective services and doctors.
- Advocate on students and families behalf to ensure they are receiving adequate school supports for mental health.
- Consult with parents teachers and other school personnel to determine the cause of student problems in order to pursue effective solutions.
- Develop and employ intervention strategies with students families and staff that are expected to lead to improved student performance good citizenship skills and prosocial behaviors.
- Create and supervise a transition program for students returning to their home campuses from the Opportunity Awareness Center.
- Provide case management support to parents in accessing outside community resources as it relates to substance abuse and mental health.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities including activities designed to provide support for parents with children who are chemically dependent.
- Provide crisis intervention and preventive support as needed by students and their families.
- Develop and provide staff development as needed to help employees acquire the skills needed to implement intervention strategies for individual students in the areas of chemical dependency mental health and trauma informed care.
- Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team to support students school personnel and families by developing strategies and interventions on chemical dependency and behavioral issues
- Establish partnerships with community agencies and facilitate connection for students to have continuity of care.
- Compile maintain and file all physical computerized reports records and other required documents.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with students parents and staff.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used
Personal computer printer copier and fax machine.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional districtwide travel.
