This position will support the two Florence SC locations and will be based at the Florence East site.

In this dynamic role you will collaborate across several service functions to implement current EHS initiatives drive quality through clear communication and champion site environmental goals and objectives. You will lead EHS compliance programs direct environmental operations conduct audits and training respond to incidents and support business continuity efforts. Armed with a bachelors degree from an accredited engineering or science program (preferably chemical or environmental) you will bring strong analytical skills proficiency in quality improvement tools and a passion for customer service. Primary responsibilities include:

Partner with functional area team members to ensure environmental policies and procedures are implemented across all operations of the site. Champion the site policies practices and procedures that build and maintain the strong environmental health and safety programs at the Florence SC sites.

Perform point source air emission calculations for all process operations including: reactors centrifuges storage tanks receiver tanks dryers and other process equipment. Conduct calculations for HAPs VOCs using methods consistent with USEPA CTG for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Operations.

Lead daily monthly and annual Chemical Manufacturing Area Source Standard (40 CFR 63 Subpart 6V CMAS) regulatory requirements for three air emission control devices verifying compliance with the USEPA MACT for Area Sources. Evaluate critical process parameters identify potential gaps and work with operations groups to ensure compliance with MACT Standard requirements.

Lead collection and compilation of air pollutant emission data for reporting responsibilities with the Title V permit. Prepare and submit semi-annual emissions reports to satisfy Air Permit requirements.

Prepare annual USEPA Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) report for all subject chemicals.

Participate in environmental regulatory reviews and applicability evaluations for all site processes with regard to hazardous waste management wastewater management air quality and regulatory reporting.

Identify and profile waste streams generated from chemical manufacturing operations. Review available waste treatment alternatives and outlets and facilitate timely removal of all regulated waste streams.

Lead and direct the handling accumulation and scheduling of all chemical waste from manufacturing maintenance and laboratory operations. Evaluate and select appropriate waste treatment and recycling technologies for the generated wastes. Verify waste profiles and facilitate vendor acceptance.

Collaborate with Environmental Manager and Utilities to handle the wastewater operations and discharge from the site. Responsibilities include ensuring collection of data evaluation of analysis data preparation of Discharge Monitoring Report. Obtain SCLLR Wastewater Operator Certification Level B or higher within first 3 years.

Work with USEPA SCDES and local environmental regulatory authorities during routine and compliance inspections and audits.

Promote EHS culture that supports continuous improvement in the EHS management system through active communication and functional area participation in site safety teams:

  • Be part of Process Hazard Analysis teams to ensure manufacturing process operations and equipment are in compliance with environmental objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a member of on-site emergency response teams that include HAZMAT Confined Space Rescue and Industrial Fire Brigade.
  • Support ISO14001 the established environmental management system and continued certification requirements for the site.

Keys to Success:

Education

BS degree in engineering or the sciences preferably in chemical or environmental areas of study

Experience:

Environmental Health and Safety background is a plus.

Knowledge and exposure to ISO Standards

Experience in a matrixed environment

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and team skills vital for working with EHS Department counterparts facility contacts customers suppliers contractors trade associations governmental agencies and various departments within the company.
  • Strong organizational problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts and practices as they relate to chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Strong affinity for technical writing and comprehending governmental codes.
  • Strong math skills are needed for sophisticated calculations. Programming knowledge is positive for air quality calculations and database development.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Technical knowledge and proficiency with the Microsoft Office products of Windows Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint and Access as well as Internet search techniques.
  • Strong orientation for accuracy and attention to detail.
