The Lethbridge Police Service is seeking to hireone (1) or more full-time permanent Community Peace Officers with offsite training to commence for successfully hired applicants in approximately March 2026.

The LPS has developed a very new and unique to Alberta Community Peace Officer (CPO) program. The vision of the LPS is guided by the highest standards of public safety we are committed to supporting our community by addressing crime maintaining public safety and strengthening public trust. CPOs will help further our vision by enhancing community perceptions of safety and increasing our capacity to continue to respond efficiently and effectively to calls for service.

Lethbridge Police Service CPOs are particularly unique in Alberta due to their enhanced authority to initiate and conduct criminal investigations involving theft and mischief where the value of the property does not exceed five thousand Peace Officers employed throughout the Province of Alberta are appointed under the Peace Officer Act. Within Lethbridge CPOs are accountable to the City of Lethbridge Lethbridge Police Service and the Provincial Director of Law Enforcement to execute their assigned duties.

Reporting to the Community Peace Officer Sergeant the role of a Community Peace Officer is to assist with public contact and support public safety within the community.


Hours of Work: Shift work including a rotation of days evenings nights weekends;

Starting Job Rate: $41.99 per hour 2026 Rate

Full Job Rate: $46.67 per hour 2026 Rate (After completion of 18-month probation period)

This permanent full-time position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.

As a Community Peace Officer you will:


AS THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE YOU WILL HAVE:

The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire) criminal and police records check reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS

All components of the selection process will be administered scored evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner. The duration of the hiring and selection process once the posting has closed should be approximately three to four months. In addition to meeting the requirements of each stage of our CPO hiring process outlined below applications will be assessed at each hiring stage based on organizational fit and overall competitiveness.

Hiring Steps and Required Documents:

  3. Please provide the following additional documents:
    • 6 Month Drivers Abstract (Maximum of 5 demerits)
    • Copy of Alberta Class 5 License or equivalent
    • Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Canadian Permanent Residence
    • Copy of High School Diploma or post secondary equivalent
  4. Submit your CPO application personal disclosure form and additional documents listed above via the BambooHR Link below: the application package is reviewed by the recruiting officer to verify completeness of required documentation competitive applicants will be contacted to arrange for PARE testing. PARE testing will be arranged by the Lethbridge Police Service.
  5. Completion of the PARE physical abilities testing (or equivalent) in under 4 minutes and 45 seconds and security clearance at the level of Verified Reliable are prerequisites for this position.
  6. PARE MEDICAL AND CONSENT FORM(Must be completed and submitted to Lethbridge Polytechnic by email prior to testing: PARE Medical and Consent Form
  7. After successful completion of PARE testing applicants will be contacted to arrange for a one-on one Personal Disclosure interview.
  8. Applicants who are still competitive after the one-on one Personal Disclosure interview will be asked to complete a written Skills Assessment.
  9. The Panel Interview is given to candidates who are still competitive after the written skills assessment.
  10. Successful candidates at the Panel Interview Stage will move onto the next stages of the process
  11. The Polygraph Assessment will be scheduled (Integrity and Truth verification through Polygraph)
  12. Security Clearance and Background checks will be conducted
  13. Successful candidate(s) will be selected and given an offer to attend CPOIP (Community Peace Officer Induction Program) training. *More Information on CPO Training is outlined below*

Facility Dogs

As a prospective employee it is important for you to know that LPS has two facility dogs in the workplace. LPS facility dogs are here to support our employees in positive constructive manner. Further LPS facility dogs support the emotional needs of victims and or witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise. Facility dogs frequent many areas of our building. In addition we have police service dogs. Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.
