This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit where our focus is the design development manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial civil national security and human spaceflight.

As an FPGA Design Engineer within the Blue Engines avionics group you will craft implement and integrate FPGA-based solutions for high-reliability safety-critical avionics systems supporting Blues Engine programs.

We are looking for a passionate individual who excels in technical challenges helps to foster collaborative teamwork and is dedicated to designing FPGA solutions that advance safe human spaceflight. Bring your technical expertise attention to detail and passion for our mission!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design develop and implement robust high-performance FPGA solutions that meet system requirements for safety-critical applications.

  • Participate in all phases of the FPGA design lifecycle including requirements capture architecture RTL development synthesis place-and-route timing closure and hardware integration.

  • Collaborate with verification software systems and hardware teams to ensure effective integration and verification of FPGA designs.

  • Develop and maintain design documentation including requirements architectures and design descriptions.

  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to ensuring compliance with rigorous design and development processes.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development practices documentation standards and version control strategies.

  • Support troubleshooting root cause analysis and optimization during bring-up and integration with flight hardware.

  • Help achieve timely completion of project milestones through effective communication and coordination with the broader engineering team.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or a closely related field.

  • 5 years of experience in FPGA or ASIC design and implementation preferably in hardware development for high-reliability or safety-critical systems.

  • Strong expertise in RTL design using VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog.

  • Proven experience with FPGA architecture synthesis timing analysis and hands-on hardware validation.

  • Proficiency with major EDA tools (e.g. Xilinx Vivado/ISE Intel Quartus Lattice Diamond Synopsys Mentor/Siemens).

  • Background in requirements-based engineering and system-level integration.

  • Experience architecting and implementing complex digital subsystems (e.g. AXI PCIe Ethernet SPI I2C custom communication protocols).

  • Effective debugging and problem-solving skills for FPGA/ASIC hardware and HW/SW co-design.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Experience collaborating with verification engineers and familiarity with coverage-driven verification concepts (UVM formal assertions) and the development or review of functional verification plans.

  • Familiarity with safety-critical standards such as NPR 7150.2 DO-254 or similar.

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g. Python Perl TCL/Shell) for design automation and build flows.

  • Experience working with regression and continuous integration infrastructure (e.g. GitLab).

  • Experience integrating standard IP cores and custom subsystem components.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and collaborative project work.


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $126898.00-$177656.85
