Schedule: Part-time 32 hours evenings. Friday Saturday Sunday and Monday.
Receiving general direction from the Security Director Operations Manager Manager of Special Investigations Supervisor or Charge Officer the incumbent shall provide a safe and secure environment for all Hospital patients visitors and employees byenforcing Hospital security regulations and by continuously watching for and the timely reporting of any safety hazards or unusual occurrences through patrol of assigned areas. Furthermore the incumbent shall provide protective service and response for the protection of the people and property of the Hospital and is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Department.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Protects people and property through patrol investigation monitoring alarms and surveillance cameras
Provide escorts for staff visitors and patients as requested.
Apprehends criminal violators when necessary and appropriate.
Provides emergency response to a variety of situations.
Applies patient restraints as needed.
Patrols assigned areas buildings and grounds giving attention to those areas where security problems have occurred. Identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft injuries or damages to Hospital property patients visitors and employees. Maintains strict confidentially at all times.
Prepares and submits written reports and daily events in a complete timely and accurate manner.
Maintains accountability for valuables/property and other forms of evidence ensures safekeeping and maintains documentation.
Acts as Security Dispatch Operator as needed.
Acts as a first responder to HazMat incidents.
Creates safety awareness among patients visitors and staff.
Working Conditions:
Work is fast-paced and physically demanding.
Walks within the hospital and around the hospital campus; to and from parking areas and buildings on premises in all weather conditions.
Runs short distances when responding to stat calls and other security emergencies; interacting with patients as needed.
Stands for long periods both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
Lifts pull and push when transporting and interacting with patients.
Potential hazards exist in encounters with physically aggressive patients visitors and others.
- Minimum of a high school diploma required.A strong educational background (Associates or Bachelors degree) in criminal justice or related field is preferred. A combination of both experience and education will be considered.
- 1-3 years of police emergency services security or related experience preferred.
- Must possess and maintain an MA drivers license or valid license from the state in which the employee resides
- Must submit to and pass an annual criminal background check.
- Physically must be able to lift patients (approximately 50 pounds) with the help of others walk at a rapid pace walk/stand for extended periods and withstand adverse weather conditions.
- Must obtain before the end of the training period and maintain throughout employment:
- De-Escalation Training and Healthcare Defensive Tactics System (HDTS)-
- Handcuff Tactics (HT)training
- Pepper Spray Defense (PSD) training
- First Aid/CPR/AED- within the first 60 days of hire
- C-Spine Immobilization training
- Must obtainwithin one yearof employment and maintain throughout employment:
- HazMat Levels 1 2 & 3
- International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification- As part of the career ladder
- Ensures all required training is up-to-date maintains individual training records and reports errors to appropriate supervisor or manager.
- Massachusetts License to Carry Class A preferred
- Ability to be licensed as a Special State Police Officer under the Commonwealth of MA General Laws Chapter 22 C section 63.
- Recognize acknowledge respect and effectively interact with people of different ages and cultures establish positive relationships and gain the trust and respect of others.
- Ability to deal with and effectively deescalate anxious/stressed people and manage aggression; Effectively manage a high volume of activity.
- Technology: use of access control and database software communications equipment and first aid equipment. Able to troubleshoot systems when necessary.
