Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Job Overview:
The Kitchen Assistant at Kindle Farm will support the daily operations of the kitchen including helping with meal preparation especially breakfast and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. This position involves working closely with students assisting with their participation in meal-related tasks and supporting their physical and emotional well-being through positive mentorship. The ideal candidate will foster a safe nurturing atmosphere where students can develop life skills while contributing to the kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Morning Support: Assist in the opening of the kitchen each morning ensuring that food supplies and equipment are ready for use.
- Breakfast Preparation: Help with the preparation and cooking of breakfast meals following the schools nutritional and dietary guidelines.
- General Cooking Assistance: Support the kitchen team with meal prep including washing chopping and organizing ingredients as well as assisting in cooking tasks.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen by washing dishes sanitizing surfaces and keeping all kitchen tools and equipment in good working order.
- Student Engagement: Assist and mentor students as they participate in meal preparation and other kitchen tasks providing guidance and support in a positive safe and encouraging manner.
- Emotional and Physical Safety: Actively engage with students creating a calm and supportive atmosphere that promotes both physical and emotional well-being.
- Mentorship and Role Modeling: Model positive behaviors and communication helping students build self-esteem responsibility and confidence through consistent mentorship.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with kitchen staff and school personnel to ensure smooth operations and a positive environment for students and staff alike.
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience in kitchen or food preparation is preferred but not required.
- Passion for working with students especially in a therapeutic or educational setting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide positive mentorship and support.
- Patient empathetic and committed to promoting a safe and positive environment for students.
- Ability to work in a team and adapt to the needs of both staff and students.
- Knowledge of food safety practices is a plus but training will be provided.
- Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment with the ability to lift and carry items stand for extended periods and perform kitchen-related tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to stand bend and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle various kitchen tasks safely and efficiently.
The pay for this position is $20-$23 per hour.
