Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

As a Cytotechnologist you will be responsible for microscopic examination and reporting results of routine Gynecologic and Non-Gynecologic cytology specimens. Our Cytotechnologists use scientific rules and methods to solve problems. The ideal candidate will possess critical thinking complex problem-solving judgment and decision-making skills. Cytotechnologists at ProPath play a crucial role in the early detection and treatment of illnesses.

CLIA Required Cytotechnologist Job Responsibilities:

  • The cytotechnologist is responsible for documenting the slide interpretation results of each gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology case he or she examined or reviewed.
  • For each 24-hour period the total number of slides examined or reviewed in the laboratory as well as the total number of slides examined or reviewed in any other laboratory or for any other employer.

Additional Cytotechnologist Responsibilities:

  • Microscopic examination interpretation and resulting of gynecologic and/or non-gynecologic cytology specimens for malignant and premalignant lesions.
  • Follow the laboratorys procedures for handling processing screening reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Adhere to all quality control/quality assurance policies and procedures. Document all quality control activities.
  • Examines and documents slides for stain/technical quality and problems concerning slide preparation.
  • Meet departmental productivity and performance standards as set by department leader.
  • Must follow department policies and procedures for the proper storage and maintenance of cytology equipment.
  • No Cytotechnologist shall exceed the applicable cytotechnologist workload limits and must record the number of hours spent examining or reviewing slides and the total number of slides examined or reviewed in each 24 hour period.
  • Follow the laboratorys established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratorys established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and communicate to department team leadership in a timely manner for resolution.
  • May assist in cyto-preparatory duties as needed.

EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Masters degree from an accredited Cytotechnology program; or a B.S. or B.A. degree in addition to successfully completing an accredited Cytotechnology/Diagnostic Cytology degree program which was accredited at the time the person graduated from the program.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  • Current CMS-approved proficiency test certificate required if processing gynecological samples.
  • State licensure if applicable.
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have at least 4 years experience as a Cytotechnologist per CLIA and CAP requirements.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

Highly complex. Must have good knowledge of Gynecologic cytology. Good knowledge of non-Gynecologic cytology is desired. Good knowledge of liquid-based pap smears is desired.
