Job Description
Job Title: MRI Technologist Cardiac
Location: Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) VA 23708 and associated Branch Medical Clinics (BMC) and TRICARE Prime Clinics (TPC) within a 40-mile radius.
Primary duty station will be NMCP or Sewells Point Branch Medical Clinic. No telework permitted.
Work Schedule: - Day Shift: Wednesday(1 shift/week)
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate from an accredited JRCERT or COE Radiologic Technology program
- Experience: 2 years of experience within the last 3 years as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologist. Cardiac MRI experience required.
- Experience must include independent scanning of cardiac MRI cases including myocardial enhancement perfusion and valve imaging. Training time is not counted.
- License/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS); ARRT (R) certification (Radiography); ARRT (MR) certification (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) or equivalent cardiac MRI credential
- References: Provide 2 recommendation letters from the past 2 years verifying clinical and interpersonal skills. one from a radiologist or supervisory technologist and one from a healthcare peer or administrator. Each must include the referees name title contact info date and signature.
Responsibilities:
- Perform cardiac MRI procedures using protocols such as Cine imaging tagging black blood delayed enhancement and perfusion studies. Myocardial viability and congenital cardiac evaluations
- Assess and screen patients for MRI safety including contraindications and allergies
- Start IV lines and coordinate with anesthesia team as needed
- Ensure all studies are completed with appropriate gating positioning and post-processing
- Assist with documentation and image transfer to PACS and MHS Genesis
- Support emergency preparedness through crash cart checks and safety huddles
- Maintain and document scanner quality control (QC) and conduct system warm-up
- Collaborate with radiologists and cardiologists on protocol adjustments and case-specific instructions
- Uphold patient privacy comfort and safety throughout all procedures
