Job Description

The Director Corporate Compliance and integrity reflects the mission vision and values of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare (NMHC) adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Director Corporate Compliance and integrity reports to the Vice President Integrity and provides day-to-day direction and oversight of compliance program activities and staff ensuring consistent standards and processes across the health system. They must have the ability to identify assess and prioritize risk. The Director must have demonstrated excellent communication skills and appropriate sense of urgency. They must also be apprised of the requirements and maneuverings of the OIG CMS HHS and other regulatory agencies be able to effectively assess and articulate the resulting implications for the health system and inform compliance program priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with other Directors be accountable to the VP Integrity for the achievement of all CCI annual goals objectives and annual work plan
  • Assist in assuring the effectiveness of the NMHC Compliance Program
  • Oversee and manage teams conducting compliance program activities which may include auditing/monitoring investigations policy development and training and education initiatives
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships across the health system and among academic medical center partners
  • Assure timely delivery of consistently high -uality compliance services in a customer focused manner
  • Keep the VP Integrity fully and appropriately informed of CCI pending issues investigations and other developments
  • Utilize data analytic tools and strategies to establish risk-based compliance program priorities
  • Utilize process improvement skills and methodologies to establish and implement sustainable change aimed at improving overall compliance
  • Keep apprised of leading compliance practices in healthcare and other industries and identify ways to implement practices within NMHC
  • Provide leadership at all levels of the organization to promote a culture of integrity and strengthen the health system compliance program
  • Serve as a liaison to regions entities committees institutional initiatives and/or working groups across the health system as assigned by the VP Integrity
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations governing healthcare compliance matters including but not limited to: Conflict of Interest Professional Business and Research Integrity EMTALA HIPAA Tax Exemption Medicare and Medicaid Billing Fraud and Abuse Stark and Anti-Kickback laws.  Serve as a subject matter expert on one or more of these areas as directed by the VP Integrity
  • Navigate and lead change within the CCI team and across the health system
  • Lead and develop a technically competent proactive customer service oriented and high-performance team.
  • Prepare communications and presentations to NM senior leaders and the board regarding compliance issues program initiatives and results
  • As needed serve as a point of contact for regulatory or governmental audits site visits or investigations (e.g. OIG OCR).
  • Be able to clearly communicate actions required by management to mitigate risk.
  • Develop and implement processes to keep NM departments apprised of emerging risk areas issues and discuss strategies for mitigation
  • Demonstrated ability to get things done effectively directing applicable staff and ensuring effective execution of compliance program priorities

Qualifications :

Required:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of five years of healthcare compliance regulatory or legal experience
  • Experience in the analysis of complex and sophisticated compliance issues

Preferred:

  • JD LLM in healthcare law MBA MHA or other healthcare-related masters degree
  • 10 years concentrated healthcare compliance legal or audit experience
  • 5 years experience in managing compliance staff in an academic health system environment
  • Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC)
  • Process improvement skills
  • Project management skills
  • Data analytics skills
