Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.


Qualifications
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Must successfully pass MISD para test
48 College Hours/Associate or Bachelors degree preferred


Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Effective organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets databases and word documents

Experience:
Preferred experience working with children in a public education environment

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual scholars or small groups.
  • Help supervise scholars throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom bus and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual scholars.
  • May perform duties at either elementary or secondary campus.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and
  • qualifications for the position.

  • Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressures.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situations.
