You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to assess and diagnose various OBGYN/MFM conditions and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OBGYN to high-risk obstetrical scans and include (but are not limited to) nuchal translucency fetal anatomy survey Doppler studies biophysical profile and endovaginal scans. Will work in a progressive busy office and will scan outpatients and inpatients providing comprehensive collaboration with Maternal Fetal Medicine providers Registered Nurses and OB/GYN Providers. Provides clinical services according to specialized maternal fetal ultrasound practice standards to detect fetal anomalies and acts as a resource to students nurses fellows and other technologists to ensure the safety of patients. The sonographer is responsible for the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory patient schedule equipment maintenance the report of equipment failures and quality assessment (QA). Must be able to work independently and have a thorough knowledge of high-risk situations. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Verify patient identification review intake and patient history for information pertinent to scheduled exam. Gathers relevant information from the patient by asking questions and reviewing their medical records regarding the patients health status and medical history.
Explains the examination procedure to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns. Refers specific diagnostic treatment or prognosis questions to the patients physicians and consult appropriate medical personnel when necessary to optimize examination results.
Performs indicated high risk associated with OB ultrasound exams. Evaluate sonograms to identify or rule-out patient/fetus anomalies.
Works in partnership with the other healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible for all patients always maintaining an attitude of service and excellence.
Generate ultrasound reports and documents diagnostic and patient data in the appropriate record according to established policies and procedures.
Records diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician in rendering a diagnosis and for archival purposes.
Administers sound patient care practices according to hospital and department policies and procedures to ensure the safety of patients. Demonstrates safety for patients staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Performs equipment quality assessment procedures as required to determine that equipment operates at an acceptable performance level.
Seeks to ensure that the work site exam rooms and work areas are in a neat and safe condition to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Participates in continuing education activities through professional societies and organizations to enhance knowledge skills and performance.
Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent department operations.
Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.
EXPERIENCE EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Sonographer and/or Ultrasound Tech required preferably in Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Degree or Certification from an accredited Sonography program required
ARDMS Certification in Obstetrics (OB) required; must obtain licensure within 1 year of hire date
Must actively pursue and seek completion of the following certifications within 5 years:
Fetal Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone Certification (FMF NT)
Cervical Assessment Certification (CLEAR or from FMF)
Fetal Echocardiography (FE) Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification preferred
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of medical practices terminology and reimbursement policies
Knowledge of and ability to use electronic medical records system; Epic preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Google Suite (Gmail Docs etc)
Strong critical thinking problem solving and interpersonal skills
Strong planning and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to type 40 wpm and operate computers and general office equipment
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
Must be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environment
Must be able to maintain confidentiality
Must be able to pay close attention to details
Must be able to read interpret and apply policies and procedures
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
May include standing sitting and/or walking for extended periods
May include performing repetitive tasks
May include working on a special schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends)
May include working with challenging patients and clients
May include lifting up to 25 pounds
