Description:
The Alternative School Humanities Teacher is responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 9-12. This Teacher is critical to the success of our alternative school program for overaged undercredited High School Students. The Teacher must work collaboratively with the EHS ELA and History Department Heads and Assistant Principal throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students. The Alternative School Humanities Teacher must be flexible and willing to meet the scheduling needs of students within the alternative school schedule. Teachers should be well versed in Massachusetts High School ELA/History Standards as well as Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.
Working Time: 9:30am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday 8am-3pm on Fridays

Required Education/Experience:
-Bachelors Degree
-Massachusetts Teaching Licensure
-SEI Endorsement
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
- Masters Degree in Education ELA or related field
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in ELA Grades 9-12
- 3 or more years of high school teaching experience
- Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
- Experience working in an urban public school setting with high school students
- Proficiency in reading writing and speaking in English and a second language.
- Strong growth mindset flexibility and collaborative skills.
Essential Duties:
- Plan and facilitate lessons aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for English Language Arts and History using district-provided high-quality curriculum materials.
- Monitor student progress and performance on online math and science coursework.
- Use all available technology curricula provided by the district to create engaging math and science lessons that are linked with 21st-century skills and remote accessibility.
- Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.
- Incorporate social-emotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging inclusion self-confidence team-building and informed decision-making.
- Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners.
- Incorporate language activities that align with the WIDA Standards into content instruction including listening speaking reading and writing to meet the needs of multilingual learners.
- Using evidence-based culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional practices to provide equitable opportunities for grade-level learning.
- Administer assessments and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target students academic and linguistics needs including MCAS and ACCESS and other literacy and math formative and summative assessments.
- Creates and maintains a safe supportive and inclusive environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning
- Communicate with students families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.
- Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.
- Collaborate and co-plan with Special Education and ESL teachers to provide high quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and English Learners.
- Collaborate with school adjustment and guidance counselors to support students social emotional and mental health needs.
- Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are consistently and adequately delivered.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events as assigned by your supervisor/assistant principal including one-to-one and group check-ins with students school events daily student advisories recognition ceremonies and community-building activities.
Salary:
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
