Job Summary:
The Director of Borough Operations serves as the key liaison between the Bronx Borough Presidents Office and various New York City agencies. This role ensures the effective and equitable delivery of city services supports emergency response coordination facilitates public engagement and advances policy budget and legislative priorities at the borough level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
City Agency Coordination & Service Monitoring
-Serve as the primary point of contact for coordination with NYC agencies including but not limited to: NYPD FDNY Parks DOT DSNY HPD NYCHA DOB DEP DOHMH OEM and NYC Transit.
-Monitor and assess city service delivery across the Bronx.
-Resolve jurisdictional issues and advocate for improved service equity.
-Provide technical assistance and operational insight to internal units and community stakeholders.
Borough Service Cabinet & Borough Board Management
-Plan manage and facilitate monthly charter-mandated meetings of the Bronx Borough Service Cabinet (District Managers and agency reps).
-Oversee the Bronx Borough Board comprised of Community Board Chairs and the Bronx City Council delegation focused on policy land use and legislation.
-Prepare materials agendas and briefings; coordinate virtual and in-person logistics.
Emergency Response & Public Safety
-Coordinate multi-agency response during emergencies (e.g. fires water main breaks storms).
-Monitor incidents reported by FDNY and NYPD; ensure communication and alignment among responding agencies.
-Organize and track public safety outreach including Fire Safety Workshops and coordination with the American Red Cross and FDNY Smart programs.
-Support community public safety efforts through attendance at Precinct Community Council meetings and coordination with commanding officers.
Special Initiatives & Civic Campaigns
-Lead or support borough-wide initiatives such as the Dont Dump on the Bronx campaign and Bronx Summer Cleanup Series.
-Collaborate with city agencies and community groups to improve quality of life and service equity.
-Provide operational support to health and public wellness campaigns in coordination with DOHMH and other entities.
Budget and Policy Development
-Participate in the boroughs budget consultation process.
-Contribute to the Borough Board Budget Priority Report and Strategic Policy Statement.
-Provide technical assistance to internal departments on budget and policy issues affecting the Bronx.
Transit & Transportation Advocacy
-Represent the Borough Presidents Office on the Transit Riders Council (TRC) and the Permanent Citizens Advisory Council to the MTA.
-Track and report on major transit initiatives including congestion pricing MTA capital planning accessibility improvements and bus network redesigns.
-Infrastructure and Capital Projects Oversight
-Collaborate with agencies such as DOT DEP Parks and DDC on infrastructure upgrades and capital improvement projects.
-Participate in community engagement and interagency meetings to provide input and ensure community priorities are reflected.
-Monitor progress of major infrastructure projects and share updates with stakeholders.
Event & Permit Logistics
-Support logistics and permit coordination for major events (e.g. Bronx Week State of the Borough Tour de Bronx).
-Conduct site visits and coordinate interagency safety and access planning.
-Liaise with SAPO Parks Department NYPD FDNY and other relevant entities for event compliance.
Constituent Advocacy & Support
-Coordinate with the Ombudsman to advocate on behalf of constituents and local organizations to resolve service delivery issues.
-Provide technical guidance for navigating city permitting and regulatory systems.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
