Health Physical Education and Wellness Department Overview:
Cambridge Public Schools Health Physical Education and Wellness Department is dedicated to creating supportive learning spaces where all students are known celebrated empowered and thrive. Students will receive relevant learning opportunities that develop the skills knowledge and attitudes necessary to be healthy and physically active. These experiences will support students to be engaged in exploring creating and advocating for meaningful changes at the individual and societal level. Upon completion of our program students will develop competence in a variety of skills which include motor skill development self-efficacy advocacy and empowerment to take control of their health and engage in lifelong efforts to maintain and enhance their individual and community health and wellness.
The Role:
The Health Physical Education and Wellness (H/PE) department seeks a 7 hour Instructional Aide to join our team. Reporting to the Coordinator of Health/Physical Education. The Health Physical Education and Wellness Instructional Aide will be responsible (K-12) for assisting Physical Education/Wellness teachers with the education of students in accordance with the Massachusetts Health Curriculum Framework which includes health and physical education. The Physical Education Aide will assist the Health Physical Education and Wellness teacher in the set up and take down of equipment student monitoring in locker rooms and classroom spaces and other duties required by a teacher. The Health Physical Education and Wellness Instructional Aide (K-12) will assist the Health Physical Education and and Wellness teacher in teaching and assessing physical education programs such as aquatics team sports adventure lessons individual sports and Health education.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Physical Education Instructional Aideyou will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Associate Degree or 48 college credits
- A love for children and desire to work with elementary and secondary aged students
- Experience and/or education in: health education physical education and teaching swim development skills
- Successful teaching experience in an urban setting is preferred
- First Aid/CPR/WSI/lifeguarding certification preferred
- Experience leading instruction in multicultural and urban community settings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body
