1.0 Evaluation Diagnosis and Placement Assistant Director in supervising staff and coordinating all services related to: 1.1 Referral evaluation disability determination and the IEP process 1.2 Accurately reporting and updating all student information for West Warwick and RIDE using a database program 1.3 Collection of census and medicaid data1.4 Child Outreach screening programs 2.0 Program Operations Responsible for co-coordinating with director and with the building principals: 2.1 Special Education Referral Process including pre-referral activities 2.2 Special Education initial and annual IEP meetings 2.3 Student placement in the Least-Restrictive-Environment 2.4 Team-cooperative teaching practices 2.5 Support services: occupational and physical therapy visually impaired speech/language counseling 2.6 Program reviews: program redesign to meet student needs 2.7 Transition Services 2.8 Aspen and other databases: ability to utilize analyze and track data such as medicaid census progress monitoring IEP workflows LREs and additional information needed to support students staff and families. Responsible for coordinating: 2.9 Project AWARE (5 year Mental Health grant) 2.10 District MTSS 2.11 Additional grants and/or district initiatives as determined by the director 3.0 Parent and Student Services 3.1 Responsible for working directly with parents and professionals to help solve student educational problems This includes working with parents advocacy groups teachers guidance counselors community agencies and hospitals 4.0 Legal Issues 4.1 Responsible for having current knowledge of the laws and legislative intent in matters relating to Special Education and 504 students with the primary focus of ensuring that the School Department does not violate these requirements 4.2 Assist the director in working with parents advocates and parents attorneys in resolving all issues related to Special Education 4.3 Assist the director to prepare for mediation and due process hearings 4.4 Assist the director in preparing legal documentation when necessary that may be used by the School Committee attorney in case presentation 5.0 Staff Supervision and Evaluation 5.1 Assist the director in the supervision and evaluation of professional and classified staff working out of the Special Education Office 26.0 Budget Preparation and Long Range Planning 6.1 Assist the director in foreseeing the needs of Special Education students long range and making recommendations to meet their needs in the various schools. 6.2 Assist the director in developing and monitoring the local Special Education office budget 6.3 Assist the director in developing and managing the annual IDEA Part B and Pre-School portions of the Consolidated Resource Plan 6.4 Assist the director and district staff to redesign Special Education job descriptions rules and responsibilities as per new regulations 7.0 Professional Development 7.1 Responsible for developing and implementing a personal plan of professional development as approved by the Superintendent of Schools 7.2 Create professional development opportunities with director and professional development staff 8.0 Administration 8.1 Assist the office of Personnel & Human Resources in the recruitment and selection of all Special Education and support personnel
