As a Software Development Engineer you will be working on an in-house Service Mesh for centralized traffic management and SOA policy implementation at Amazon focusing on features like security authentication authorization load balancing throttling routing and more. Your products will continuously improve KPIs (availability efficiency productivity) on behalf of service owners by managing SOA concerns providing automation tooling and higher-level abstractions.

Our vision is to make Amazons Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) more manageable and developers more productive by building an ecosystem of managed abstractions that allow Amazon Retail developers to focus on their unique business logic and business operations knowing that security authentication authorization load balancing throttling and routing just work and are always consistent with Amazon best practices.

Key job responsibilities
-Design develop and deliver high-quality software solutions to meet business needs
-Write clean efficient and well-documented code following best practices
-Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle
-Collaborate cross-functionally to understand requirements and provide technical guidance -Identify and address technical challenges and drive improvements
-Review code submissions and mentor junior engineers
-Participate and contribute in design and brainstorming sessions with team.

A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer II your day will start with a daily standup to align the team on progress blockers and priorities. Youll then spend the majority of your time designing developing and delivering high-quality software solutions to meet critical customer needs. This will involve collaborative ideation with your team writing clean and efficient code conducting thorough testing and participating in code reviews to ensure maintainability. The role requires a mix of technical depth problem-solving skills and effective cross-team collaboration to create innovative solutions that delight our customers.

About the team
The Big Mesh Load Management team is at the forefront of developing and maintaining Amazons next-generation service connectivity platform. We build and operate sophisticated load balancing and service protection systems that power critical internal services at massive scale. Our team tackles exciting technical challenges in distributed systems high-performance computing and real-time decision making. - 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- 3 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
- Do you have prior experience networking and load balancing technologies

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
