Position Summary:
The P&C Programs Property Underwriting Lead is accountable for ensuring consistent underwriting excellence along with profitable financial results for first-party lines of business. As the property line of business thought leader the position has a wide scope to directly influence the underwriting and program management functions and also provide foresight and strategy advisement to Programs leadership. Reports to SVP CUO of P&C Programs.
The Property Underwriting Lead will collaborate with and effectively leverage all resources needed to deliver superior line of business results in alignment with Programs goals strategies and best practices. External resources include Program Administrators (MGA) Third Party Administrators (TPA) and other service provide (e.g. loss control/audit/3rd party data firms) as well as industry data research and trend information sources. Arch resources include referral underwriters program managers claims reinsurance corporate underwriting produce actuarial analytics finance IT compliance and others as necessary. Responsibilities include all activities needed to achieve first-party lines of business superior results including the following:
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Technical LOB Book Management - Strategy
Oversight of profitability and growth for all first-party lines of business within P&C Programs.
Ensure consistency in execution for first-party lines of business program management and underwriting practices with close alignment to financial goals and company best practices.
Identify & communicate first-party business strategies and priorities to Programs leadership that must be executed in order to achieve required financial results.
Management of rates coverages aggregation exposure and catastrophe capacity utilization for first-party business across programs. Work with Ceded Re and Data Analytics on all CAT modeling.
Works collaboratively on behalf of P&C Programs with other internal underwriting support teams within Arch including Property Ceded Re; Product Corporate Underwriting Actuarial Claims and Compliance.
Represent P&C Programs on all appropriate Arch Property council and as liaison to Ceded-Re and other internal property resource groups throughout the company.
Lead or assist as needed Speed to Market (STM) initiatives requiring high level first-party expertise.
Technical LOB Support Program Management
Develop deep level knowledge of Programs first-party business and MGA partners. Leverage financial results staffing technology distribution market insights underwriting strategies through tactical and strategic recommendations to Program Management.
Provide LOB technical and strategic support for all Program Management Lifecycle activities. Be active and available to provide value added assessment ideas and recommendations.
Technical LOB - Underwriting
Senior level authority and approval for all first-party underwriting referrals. Leverage coaching and mentoring opportunities during the process to develop staff.
Recommend first-party authority levels for all underwriting & program management staff.
Provide review & advice on underwriting guidelines for first party lines of business across all programs. Ensure best practices and alignment with group goals and objectives. Leverage the process for staff technical development.
Engage Underwriting specialists to drive specific underwriting initiatives for first party lines of regular on-site team meetings for feedback on program & industry trends. Collaborate to suggest and address solutions for recurring and / or wide-spread opportunities.
Lead P&C Programs training for first-party lines of business for internal staff and MGA partners. Facilitate frequent in-person group sessions to keep the Programs team and partners educated on first-party exposures and coverages.
Lead or participate as needed in MGA underwriting audits where first-party line of business expertise is required. Leverage the process for opportunities to develop staff and make recommendations for internal and external underwriting and process improvement.
Provide new opportunity review technical assessment and advisement in coordination with the Business Development Lead.
Stay informed and current on Property and first-party line insurance issues through education conferences and other training opportunities. Share updated information as appropriate throughout the Programs team.
When requested assist or lead special projects related to first-Party lines to improve underwriting results within P&C Programs.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Bachelors degree in Finance Economics Business Risk-management or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of property and casualty underwriting insurance industry experience required; 10 years preferred.
Travel up to 15% is expected for external (Program Administrator visits and events) and internal meetings.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$131100 - $203300/year
Total individual compensation (base salary short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location scope & responsibilities of the role qualifications talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
