While we are a separate organization from Mohawk College we work collaboratively with the college to reach our goals.

MY EVENTS & COMMUNITES TEAM

The MSA Events & Communities Team is a department within the Student Experience Team (Events & Communities Student Services Communications & Engagement) that builds a sense of belonging through social and cultural experiences while curating spaces where our student community can connect and have fun.

WHAT YOU DO

The Student Clubs & Communities Assistant is responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of department initiatives that support the student life cycle framework with direct support from the Specialist. This role will help create and co-create memorable experiences with students for students working in partnership with MSA departments staff and the Mohawk community.


What Success Looks Like in This Role:

You have a passion for working for and co-creating experiences with students. You bring a positive energy each day to help build communities while fostering belonging. You understand how programming impacts MSA Vision Mission and Values and you can adapt to changing responsibilities and the diverse needs of students.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Support the Clubs & Communities Specialist with MSA student-focused initiatives and experiences.
  • Connect with students on campus and with the Mohawk community to gain insight and feedback for future planning.

HOW YOU DO IT

Responsibilities

  • Co-create student-focused initiatives (events activities & workshops) and assist with the planning and execution (as a member of the department crew).
  • Assist in the execution of small-scale leadership development projects to drive program enhancements and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the promotion of inclusive student communities by supporting initiatives that celebrate diverse student identities fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
  • Help coordinate and supervise logistics spaces and the use of equipment.
  • Act as a student host/leader while fostering interpersonal relationships and connections with the student body to inform and educate.
  • Partner with other MSA student staff within the Student Experience Team to brainstorm gain insight and share information.
  • Collect and provide feedback and ideas continually striving to evolve and adapt efforts to better meet the needs and interests of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you Need in Education Experience and Training for your Department:

  • Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in a Mohawk college program (returning students Fall 2025).
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Must be available to work based on the business needs of the department through your school schedule.

What Knowledge Skills and Attitudes that you require:

  • Some experience and understanding of student events clubs and communities or relevant experience within a student setting.
  • Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
  • Passion for working for and with post-secondary students.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational multi-tasking skills and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team with guidance.
  • Positive energy and attitude.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Standard work hours are 0-15 hours per week based on the Events & Communities calendar. This may include evenings and weekends when required.
  • Your work schedule will be created based on the needs of the team. Should your availability change due to commitments or academic schedule we cannot guarantee hours or accommodation.
  • Independent and/or group travel between campuses may be required.
  • Able to work in a variety of settings that may involve sitting standing lifting and transporting.
