Job Description
The Ivy at Ellington is a family owned and operated Assisted Living Community located on West Road in Ellington CT.
We are looking for a responsible friendly customer service oriented individual to join our team in the position of per diem driver.
The Driver is responsible for providing local transportation for residents in the Assisted Living Residential Community to events outings and appointments.
Essential Functions
- Provides transportation as scheduled or needed using the Ivy-owned vehicles.
- Must be on time for appointments.
- Maintains licensing and inspections and notifies Executive Director of due dates.
- Maintains cleanliness of vehicles insuring interior and exterior are clean vacuumed and free of garbage.
- Conductspre- and post-trip inspections of vehicle.
- Reads the transportation schedule daily and assures all scheduled appointments can be met
- Maintains accurate and timely mileage/trip logs indicating time left destination time returned and total mileage.
- Greets residents visitors and staff courteously respecting dignity and confidentiality standards while promoting resident rights.
- Responsible for resident safety while driving and transporting; follows safe transportation practices including without limitation utilizing all safety equipment including seat belts wheelchair tie-downs etc.
- Assists residents during transportation including opening doors and helping residents into and out of the vehicle escorting residents to their appointments and aiding in loading and unloading bundles packages and passenger belongings; and reports any ambulatory issues/changes/concerns to the Executive Director and nursing in a timely manner.
- Meets Registry of Motor Vehicle requirements as an approved driver.
- Valid drivers license in CT required and must have clean driving
- Complies with traffic law regulations at all times; obeys all road signs including speed limits
- Immediately notifies Executive Director of any accident damage personal injury or behavioral incidents taking place during any events/outings or medical
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job requires daily bending lifting walking pushing pulling reaching grasping pinching stooping kneeling twisting and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. This job requires driving a 15-passenger van and other vehicle and operating a wheelchair lift.
Education/Experience/Licensure
- Must have high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must have and maintain current drivers license in CT with an F endorsement and clean driving record
- Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical and physical examination conducted by a licensed medical examiner listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry
- Experience in a driving position and knowledge of vehicle preventative maintenance programs and vehicle emergency repairs is preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year experience (paid or volunteer) working with elders in home care assisted living skilled nursing facility or similar setting is beneficial.
- Must be able to operate van lift
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid First Aid Certification and CPR certification
