Job Description:

Work schedule: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with every other weekend rotation. Full-Time Hours
Provide medical appointment transportation services locally surrounding areas including travel within Nebraska and to Wyoming and Colorado. Escorts members to medical appointments. Assists with transfers of members in and out of State vehicles. Assists members with ADLs during appointments and provides privacy in all cars. Transport paperwork and maintains confidentiality of member information. Communicates with nursing staff other departments outside facility staff and others as needed. Operates vehicle lift per facility policies and procedures. Serves as an advocate for the member. Represents NDVA in a positive manner.
Provide quality care for each member to maintain quality of life. Maintain dignity and confidentiality of members. Perform routine nursing duties in the general care of elderly members in the Veterans Home. Prepare administer and document oral and topical medications and treatments. Schedule member appointments via phone or electronically. Communication with VA and medical provider offices. Conduct member inventory including maintaining VA issued member equipment such has hearing aides classes etc.



Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age completed a State approved 76-hour nurse aide training course and competency evaluation program and be listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry.

Other: Applicants must possess a valid drivers license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Hired candidates must successfully complete the 40 Hour Medication Aide course and be listed on the Medication Aide registry within first year of employment.



Knowledge of: principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; Nebraska Medication Aide Act medication administration and adverse medication reactions; regulations governing nursing assistants; practices and principles of providing basic nursing assistance; infection control practices; HIPAA regulations; abuse and neglect identification and prevention; safety principles; privacy and dignity principles.

Skill in: providing basic nursing assistance administering medications; developing positive relationships with others.

Ability to: recognize adverse medication reactions and take appropriate action; follow oral and written instructions in exact detail; lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and push/pull occasionally up to 75 lbs. on a daily basis; frequently bend at the waist and neck and frequently twist at the waist and walk or stand up to 90% of the shift; interact with members and others in a positive manner and be flexible to meet changing demands of the job; lift turn and/or repositions members as needed.
