Job Description

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) supports the nations second largest research program conducted among the VA Hospitals and is looking for a full-time Clinical Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will support the research evaluating efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic post-traumatic headaches in Veterans and service members.

The Research Assistant will perform various duties as outlined below under the direct supervision by the Principal Investigator (PI).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the recruitment of study participants;
  • Explain the study and study procedures to potential participants;
  • Obtain telephone or in-person consent per defined protocol;
  • Track participants for follow-up assessments.
  • Support the Research Coordinator in all the ongoing research associated with the project at each site.
  • Enter and maintain data in databases;
  • Assist with data tracking and cleaning as needed.
  • Assist with coordinating meetings.
  • Assist with IRB submissions and amendments.
  • Assist with data preparation and analysis;
  • Assist with the preparation of manuscripts and progress reports.
  • Assist with preparation and organization of educational materials for study participants maintain sharepoint/icohere/study websites such that materials are current.
  • Occasional travel to Livermore site;
  • Other study related duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required;
  • Valid Drivers License required;
  • Previous experience with subject recruitment in research environment;
  • Desired: 6-12 months or more of related experience;
  • Highly reliable with demonstrated organizational ability;
  • Accurate record keeping and attention to detail;
  • Research experience in psychological test administration highly desired;
  • Knowledge of standard concepts practices and procedures within the research field gained through education or experience;
  • Ability to understand and follow VA regulations and procedures regarding research;
  • Knowledge of medical terms and abbreviations relevant to obtaining and coding medical history desired;
  • Effective communication skills both orally and in writing;
  • Basic math/statistical skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word Outlook and Excel;
  • Experience in database management or experience using statistical programs desired;
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint FileMaker Pro and Endnote desired.
