Job Description

Job Summary:

The 5th Grade English Language Arts (ELA)/Science Teacher creates a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for students. This role involves designing and delivering engaging lesson plans assessing student progress and fostering a positive classroom culture. The 5th Grade ELA/Science Teacher will collaborate with colleagues communicate effectively with parents and participate in professional development to ensure the highest standards of education. The successful candidate will inspire young minds and support their academic social and emotional growth.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Bachelors degree in Education.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification.
  • Endorsements in Education or relevant subject areas (5th grade and up) i.e. ZC Elementary K-8 All Subjects; ZD Middle School; or ZE General Elementary K-6

Experience

  • Prior teaching experience at the elementary/middle level is preferred.
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive classroom practices.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand walk and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Stamina to work in a fast-paced energetic environment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors to supervise students in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum Development

  • Plan prepare and deliver engaging lessons in person that meet the educational standards and cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Develop age-appropriate instructional materials activities and assessments.
  • Implement a variety of teaching methods and strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Integrate technology effectively into the curriculum.

Classroom Management

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Establish and maintain classroom rules and procedures.
  • Manage student behavior through positive reinforcement and consistent disciplinary practices.
  • Supervise students within the classroom setting whether indoors or outdoors (i.e. supervising recess transportation procedures etc).

Student Assessment and Support

  • Monitor and evaluate student progress through regular assessments and provide timely feedback.
  • Identify students needs and work with specialists to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) if necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.

Professional Development

  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational trends.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and contribute to the school community.

School Community Involvement

  • Participate in school events parent-teacher conferences and other activities that support the school community.
  • Serve on committees and contribute to the overall improvement of the school.

Terms:

  • This position follows the Northview Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement and is evaluated by the Highlands Middle School Administration.
