ABOUT SINGULAR GENOMICS

Singular Genomics is inventing at the forefront of genomics one of the worlds fastest-growing industries. The commercially available G4 Sequencing Platform is a powerful highly versatile benchtop genomic sequencer designed to produce fast and accurate results. In addition the company is currently developing the G4X Spatial Sequencer an upgrade to the G4 which will leverage Singulars proprietary sequencing technology applying it as an in situ readout for transcriptomics proteomics and fluorescent H&E in tissue with spatial context. Our Headquarters are located on the Torrey Pines Mesa in La Jolla California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Staff Electrical Engineer you will work with your peers in science and engineering to architect design and develop electrical controls power distribution and power management for sophisticated scientific instrumentation. This position is ideally suited to a candidate who is self-motivated and excited by a startup environment where opportunity to rise to frequent and diverse challenges is commonly encountered.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with other members of the R&D team with expertise in organic chemistry surface chemistry biochemistry enzyme engineering physics micro-fluidics optics signal processing and engineering.
  • Translate high level design requirements and specifications into detailed requirements specifications circuit designs electrical schematics prototypes PCBs and final products.
  • Working with other engineers and scientists; assemble test evaluate and conduct iterative improvement on prototype systems leading toward released products.
  • Develop test plans product and technical documentation.
  • Directly support the R&D process instrumentation and chemistry development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering Engineering Physics or comparable accredited technical degree and a minimum 5 years of experience in electronic systems design.
  • Wide ranging background in digital and analog electronics; board level and inter-board integration.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot common and uncommon system level electrical issues: noise stray capacitance ground loops impedance mismatch etc.
  • Experience with optical capacitive inductive sensor technologies.
  • Experience with analog and digital signal conditioning filtering and processing.
  • Experience with AC/DC circuits low power low voltage power management and distribution DC/DC regulation board and system level noise management and mitigation.
  • Experience with schematic design and capture PCB electrical design simulation layout fabrication diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Competence with common electrical laboratory instrumentation and data acquisition systems (DVMs oscilloscopes logic analyzers power meters etc.).
  • Experience with high precision motion control systems sensors encoders closed loop servo systems open and closed loop stepper motor systems closed loop thermal control systems.
  • Understanding of H-bridge amplifier design and integration for stepper motor applications.
  • Developing implementing and debugging communications between devices (RS-232/485 CANbus USB I2C SPI and Ethernet etc.).
  • Experience with Altium or other comparable EDA tools. Ability to use tools from schematic and PCB design through fabrication.
  • This position requires soft skills to be part of a cross functional team with excellent written & oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience developing high-precision scientific instrumentation.
  • Experience with electrical design for biomedical instrumentation fluidics and optics.
  • Familiarity with Microcontroller architectures and ability to write requirement specifications.

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $121400 - $159100. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to an individuals qualifications location where the role is to be performed internal equity and alignment with market data. Should the level of the role change during the hiring process the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Additionally all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
