Job Description:

Join the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission as a Financial Auditor and help lay the groundwork for robust financial oversight in the evolving world of gaming. With new racetracks and casinos opening across the state our responsibilities are expanding making this a pivotal time to establish and refine financial auditing practices. Were seeking a proactive detail-oriented professional to ensure compliance and contribute to the integrity and transparency of Nebraskas gaming industry. The compensation range is $22.975-$33.867 per hour commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications within budgetary constraints if approved.



Examples of Work

  • Conducts thorough reviews of financial documents and reports from Authorized Gaming Operators ensuring compliance with the Nebraska Racetrack Gaming Act and Commission regulations.
  • Performs detailed audit testing to verify adherence to established policies procedures and legal requirements.
  • Conducts routine to complex field review and audits of statistical and financial records of Authorized Gaming Operators.
  • Develops and implements forensic audits to assess and enhance the operations of gaming entities.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial data and presents findings to applicable stakeholders.
  • Prepares and delivers testimony presenting audit findings surrounding any civil regulatory criminal or departmental action.
  • Embraces additional responsibilities as needed to support the Commissions evolving needs.



Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in business administration or accounting (see also Legal Requirements).

Legal Requirements: Positions in this classification are subject to Title 42 Nebraska Administrative Code Chapter 1

Minimum Standards for Government Employees Identified as Auditors. The basic requirement is a bachelors degree in business administration or the equivalent with at least 24 semester hours of accounting or auditing. Any combination of education with a concentration in accounting and auditing experience acceptable to the Auditor of Public Accounts may be substituted for the educational requirements in Section 002.01.

Preferred: 2 years experience conducting financial audits.

Other: This position requires regular reliable attendance and a valid drivers license. Must be able to drive a state car and/or provide independent authorized transportation. Travel to operator sites will be occasional day trips. **NRGC employees are prohibited from gambling or placing a wager in any establishment licensed by the Commission.**

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • A solid foundation in accounting principles practices and financial reporting including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • An interest in the gaming industrys operational regulatory and financial frameworks.
  • Keen analytical skills to identify financial inconsistencies and subtle irregularities.
  • Ability to work respectfully with a diverse group of stakeholders including Commission employees gaming operators and public officials.
  • Clear communication both oral and written to summarize complex ideas for all stakeholders.
  • Capability to prepare reports and review financial data for accuracy and compliance.
