Based in Northeastern Nebraska this teammate will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of Nebraska Charitable Gaming Regulations in the following counties: Knox Cedar Dixon Dakota Antelope Pierce Wayne Thurston Boone Madison Stanton Cuming Burt Platte Colfax Dodge and Washington.
The Department of Revenue is proud to offer a uniquely rewarding opportunity in public service. As an Inspector you will travel across the Northeastern part of the state to assist members of the public who are licensed to conduct charitable gaming including keno pickle cards and raffles. Revenue generated from charitable gaming goes right back into the community so your efforts will directly impact many Nebraskans for the better. You are also the Departments eyes and ears regarding the regulation of mechanical amusement devices such as pool tables and arcade games. You will verify that each device has a valid decal affixed. Regulating cash devices will also be an integral part of your responsibilities verifying that these devices are properly registered with the State of Nebraska. Finally you are the States front line for cigarette tax regulation and ENDS products. You will conduct random inspections at retail locations to determine that packs of cigarettes have valid Nebraska tax stamps affixed and are on the Nebraska approved directory listing. ENDS products will be inspected and products verified to be listed on the Nebraska approved directory.
This position appeals to those individuals with an adventurous mindset. No one day will be the same as each day will take you to new places and new experiences. Although you will consistently work 40 hours each week you will largely decide how to allocate your time most effectively. In short this is not an 8 to 5 desk job.
In the performance of your duties you will be subject to minimal supervision. However you will be part of close-knit team that is there to assist support and encourage you whenever and wherever we can. This team consists of 7 other Inspectors including a Supervising Inspector and 8 Deputy State Sheriffs who serve as the Departments law enforcement section. Being an integral part of this team we are invested in your success. Your supervisor and fellow Inspectors will work with you over the first month or longer to ensure you have all the skills knowledge and abilities to handle any scenario with confidence. We will be there as a resource for you for the duration of your tenure.
You will be provided with all equipment necessary to do your job including a laptop phone and state vehicle. While 80% of your time is spent on the road there will be times when you will need to work on returns filings and other paperwork.

Job duties include:

compliance with applicable state laws and regulations by interviewing permit holders licensees players or taxpayers; reviewing deposits and expenditures inventorying products; visually inspecting for proper stamps approved products decals equipment or other gaming equipment and supplies; observing the conduct of games; balancing keno cash drawers reviewing reports etc.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree in business OR two years of experience with tax return preparation business ownership and operation account research and analysis or interpretation and application of policies laws rules or regulations.
Preferred Qualifications: We would prefer the final candidate reside in one of the enforcement counties.
Other: Individual MUST possess a valid drivers license.
Knowledge of: Mathematics and accounting; business operations and practices; resources for researching laws rules and regulations and general business computer applications.
Skills in: analyzing and interpreting information and problems; dealing with adversarial situations and gaining the publics cooperation.
Ability to: communicate verbally and in writing to express clear and concise instructions descriptions and ideas; utilize interpretive techniques to determine information sought; organize and document information gathered; use independent judgment; relate effectively with people representing a wide variety of backgrounds; work independently in a home office environment; travel daily by motor vehicle to multiple locations; work a varied 40 hours per week schedule as needed to conduct compliance reviews; and travel overnight on occasion.
