Job Duties & Key ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking a full-time science teacher with expertise in biology or chemistry to design and lead hands-on applied science classes and lab experiences for students across our school (grades K-9). This role involves working with incoming upper school students to build foundational scientific curiosity and skills while also challenging older students to think and work like scientists through deeper investigations and connections to real-world innovations.
In this role you will:- Design and teach engaging science lessons and labs for a range of ages using a constructivist project-based learning approach that keeps curiosity alive and builds intrinsic motivation.
- Cover foundational scientific concepts and skills across life science physical science earth science and introductory chemistry aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards with flexibility to deepen or expand topics based on student interest and emerging scientific developments.
- Facilitate meaningful hands-on experiments and simulations that make abstract concepts tangible support adaptability and tolerance of ambiguity and develop creativity frustration tolerance emotional intelligence and collaboration skills.
- Create and refine innovative curricula continuously updating content to stay relevant with our changing world and integrating leading-edge technology and real-world scientific thought leaders.
- Maintain an operating science lab ensuring adherence to all safety protocols laws and regulatory requirements.
- Coach and guide students through authentic assessments that prioritize understanding and process over grades.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across grade levels to build interdisciplinary connections and support a vibrant learning community.
- Possibly lead and/or co-lead small group math instruction grounded in constructivist inquiry based approaches for additional compensation.
Qualifications- At least 3 years experience working with elementary and/or middle school children.
- Bachelors degree required.
- Graduate level degree in biology or another science field is desirable but not required.
- Substantial life sciences coursework in college or substantial life sciences work experience.
- Experience in scientific research in an academic or biotech setting is highly desirable though not required.
- A growth mindset and enthusiasm for ongoing learning and professional growth.
Salary- Salary is competitive and will be determined based on experience.
