Job Description

Job Summary
Workshop leaders assist a faculty member with instructional responsibilities including preparation and assessment of peer-lead team learning materials as well as leading weekly sessions with small cohorts of BIO205 students. Workshop leaders will coordinate their work with Dr. Amy Beadles-Bohling and will also work closely with one or more BIO205 Professors. Workshop leaders will work with students in person in classrooms on campus or virtually depending on current UP policies. Faculty supervisors will provide feedback to workshop leaders throughout the semester. Workshops for Fall 2025 are scheduled during the following times: Mondays: 3:40-4:40pm 4:50-5:50pm 6:00-7:00pm and 7:10-8:10pm Tuesdays: 3:40-4:40pm 4:50-5:50pm 6:00-7:00pm and 7:10-8:10pm In a cover letter please include the following: 1) Please answer these questions: A. Why are you interested in being a workshop leader B. What makes you stand out as an applicant C. Have you done any teaching before If yes briefly describe it. Make sure to note how many students their approximate ages and yours for how long and about what topic. D. List three adjectives that others would use to describe you. E. Explain how you believe each of the adjectives you listed will enhance your ability to serve as a workshop leader. F. What is the single greatest strength you would contribute as a workshop leader G. What is the greatest weakness you would bring as a workshop leader and how do you think being a workshop leader will help you grow in that area H. What do you hope to gain by being a workshop leader 2) list all the days and times you would be available for workshops and 3) note whether you are eligible for Federal Work Study ( FWS ) as part of your financial aid package. You will also be asked to upload a current resume as part of your application. After your initial appointment and a training seminar for new Workshop leaders instructors and supervisors will provide feedback throughout the semester. For Workshop leaders assisting a course for the first time a mid-semester evaluation form will be completed by the course instructor. The Workshop leader and instructor will meet to discuss the evaluation and the evaluation will then be submitted to the supervisor. All TAs will receive an evaluation at the end of the semester and have the opportunity to discuss with the course instructor.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of BIO205 with an average exam percentage of at least 87%. Enrollment in BIO 387 Service Learning course led by instructor teaching the BIO205 course. A thorough understanding of course material. Possession of a strong desire to work with students and assist in their learning. Be approachable and friendly with peers and committed to diversity and the inclusion of every student in the course. Be respectful punctual and dependable.

Preferred Qualifications
Interest in teaching or science education Hours will be decided upon between the Workshop leader and the course instructor at the beginning of the semester. Federal Work Study in Financial Aid package
