Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for six(6)Senior Maintenance Techniciansto join our dynamic energetic and innovative Road Operations team. The successful candidates willoperate a variety of specialized road maintenance/construction equipment and perform work in maintenance construction traffic control and other Public Works activities.
Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:
- May act as lead worker to other employees. May train or provide instruction. May check for completion of scheduled work. Trains other personnel in the correct operation of road maintenance and construction equipment.
- Performs labor associated with maintenance repair and construction of roadway systems including roadway/shoulder maintenance and construction drainage mowing vegetation control bridge maintenance/construction snow/ice removal and control traffic marking system traffic control and assistance at the rock pits.
- Assists in on-site work direction. Prepares and maintains daily work logs inventory files and billings.
- Operates all highway construction equipment such as but not limited to:
- Boom truck
- Backhoe/excavator
- Slope mower
- Asphalt distributor
- Belt loader
- Belly dump trailer
- Grader
- Bulldozer
- Man lift
- Large size wheel loader
- Vactor truck
- 10 ton roller
- Lowboy tractor and trailer
- Slope mower

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three years experience in road maintenance construction traffic control maintenance and heavy equipment operation. Previous experience providing instruction training and scheduling assignments of others.
- Current Washington State Drivers License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
- Must possess a Washington Traffic Flagging Card or obtain one within six (6) months of employment.
- Must hold a valid First Aid Card or obtain within three (3) months of employment.
- A valid Washington State Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with air brake endorsement. Special endorsements for tanker and hazardous materials must be obtained within six months of hire date. If assigned to Road Operations cannot have a manual restriction on CDL.
- Must meet certification requirements in the Public Works equipment trainingprogramforSeniorMaintenanceTechnicianwithinprobationaryperiodof employment.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to operate a wide variety of heavy equipment and power tools.
- Ability to maintain heavy equipment and make minor mechanical repairs.
- Knowledge of procedures and practices related to road maintenance construction traffic control maintenance and/or rock crusher operation.
- Ability to work with the public in a courteous and professional manner providing information and answering questions.
