Position Summary

The Philanthropic Advisor will serve as the face of BMOs philanthropic advisory platform delivering strategic guidance to High Net Worth (HNW) and Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) individuals families and family offices. This role blends technical expertise in charitable planning with a deep understanding of the emotional social and legacy-driven dimensions of wealth. The advisor will help clients move from transactional giving to transformational impactaligning their values with their vision for change.

This is a leadership-track role with the opportunity to shape and scale BMOs philanthropic offering across client segments including mass affluent and emerging wealth tiers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Client Engagement & Strategy
    • Acts as the primary philanthropic advisor to clients guiding them through values-based discovery and strategic giving plans.
    • Advises on charitable vehicles (e.g. donor-advised funds private foundations charitable trusts) and their tax implications.
    • Facilitates family conversations around legacy purpose and intergenerational wealth transfer.
  • Thought Leadership & Education
    • Serves as a subject matter expert on the meaning of wealth the role of philanthropy in society and the evolving landscape of impact giving.
    • Represents BMO at industry events client forums and internal trainings to elevate philanthropic literacy across the organization.
  • Platform Development & Growth
    • Identifies scalable ways to deliver philanthropic guidance to broader client segments including mass affluent households.
    • Collaborates with internal partners (Wealth Planners Relationship Managers Investment Advisors) to integrate philanthropy into holistic planning.
    • Contributes to the development of tools content and processes that enhance the client experience.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship
    • Helps build and mentor a team of philanthropic professionals as the platform grows.
    • Fosters a culture of collaboration innovation and client-centricity.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience advising HNW/UHNW clients on philanthropy estate planning or related disciplines.
  • Deep knowledge of charitable planning strategies tax law and philanthropic structures.
  • Strong facilitation skills and emotional intelligence; able to navigate complex family dynamics with discretion and empathy.
  • Proven ability to translate values into actionable giving strategies that create measurable impact.
  • Experience working across wealth tiers and designing scalable service models is a plus.
  • Designations such as Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) or Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) preferred.
  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree in law finance or nonprofit management a plus.

Salary:

$102000.00 - $190000.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Groups pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location skills experience education and qualifications for the role and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Groups expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Groups total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives discretionary bonuses as well as other perks and rewards.
