Job Description

What is the role

The Utilities Lead will play a key role in the planning and coordination of utility design and relocation activities across a range of impactful civil infrastructure projects in Ontario including transit municipal land development and transportation. You will take ownership of utility design relocation and protection strategies from concept to completion. Working closely with clients municipalities regulatory agencies and utility providers youll ensure all utility work is thoroughly coordinated compliant with applicable standards and aligned with broader project goals for cost schedule and constructability.

In this role your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the preparation review and approval of utility relocation designs ensuring alignment with project specifications engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of utility relocation strategies in collaboration with clients municipalities agencies and utility providers.
  • Coordinate utility conflict analysis and develop mitigation or relocation strategies to minimize construction delays and cost impacts.
  • Direct construction support activities including site inspections submittal reviews and response to contractor RFIs.
  • Lead contractual and technical coordination with utility companies and third parties to facilitate timely construction and relocation activities.
  • Perform cost-benefit analysis for relocation versus in-place protection and lead the preparation of utility cost estimates and risk assessments.
  • Manage external consultants and subcontractors to ensure deliverables meet quality and schedule expectations.
  • Collaborate with internal design and construction teams to align utility work with civil engineering schedules and deliverables.
  • Ensure project documentation and utility records are complete accurate and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to proposal development and business development initiatives related to utility coordination and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Continuously grow professional skills and knowledge through training sessions seminars workshops and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on the latest trends software and technology.
  • Assisting with managing other related assignments within the scope of the Civil Division.

The qualifications you need:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (.) designation in Ontario is preferred.
  • 6 years of progressive experience in underground utility design and coordination including water storm sanitary gas hydro and telecom systems.
  • Proven experience leading utility coordination on complex infrastructure projects ideally within municipal transit or MTO environments.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; experience with GIS and/or BIM is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario regulations utility standards and permitting processes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or for major utility providers.
  • Strong leadership communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
