Job Description
60% - Early Childhood Clothing Closet Management Support
  • Collect clothing donation pickups from designated sites around town (students are not permitted to use personal vehicles for these pickups).
  • Sort clothes into different categories such as gender age and season.
  • Set up clothing displays.
  • Assist community members using the closet.
15% - CCC Operational Assistance
  • Welcome community members to the CCC.
  • Help set up and clean up for various CCC activities and events (note: some tasks may require lifting items up to approximately 25 lbs).
  • Table for and attend community events as a representative of the CCC.
  • Stock food in the Community Store.
  • Hand out ready-made meals to community members.
15% - Individual project/focus as determined by team needs and student interests/strengths

10% - Other relevant duties as assigned by the site supervisor and program staff
  • Participate in CCC staff and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in training sessions and meetings led by Center for Service Learning staff.
  • Participation in relevant professional development and presentation activities including the CSLs annual Service Showcase.

Position Overview
The Student Community Action Corps Program facilitates the engagement of KU students with various community organizations programs or support in community-engaged efforts. Student employees will support their partner organization and/or program with various tasks and projects while receiving regular training and support from Center for Service Learning staff.

The Community Childrens Center (CCC) has been providing assistance to Douglas County since 1965. They provide available accessible and affordable childcare to children aged 0-5. In addition to childcare they provide education support advocacy and programs to build up family and workplace health within the community. CCC runs an early childhood clothing closet to support any families in Douglas County who care for a child 0-5 years old. Much of this specific position revolves around helping run and maintain this closet.
