JOB GOAL:
To develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness hygienic habits and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of students in physical achievement; to develop strength skill agility poise and coordination in individual dual and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each students ability.
REPORTS TO:
Building Administration
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness health education rhythms and dance and individual dual or team sports utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
Analyzes demonstrates and explains basic skills knowledge and strategies of formal sports games rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.
Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student to the extent feasible.
Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the overall safety of students.
Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas.
Evaluates each students growth in physical skills knowledge and contribution in team sports.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
Selects and requisitions uniforms equipment and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
Communicates with parents and school counselors on students progress.
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health attitude and learning problems.
Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Performs other duties as many from time to time be assigned by the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
Minimum
Bachelors degree in Physical Education.
Wyoming teacher certification with a K-6 or K-12 Physical Education endorsement. (Applicants must be able to obtain a teaching certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board ()
The School District places employees on salary schedules on the basis of:
Wyoming experience.
Out-of-state experience up to 7 years.
Degree Bachelors Masters or Doctorate.
Semester Graduate Credits beyond Degree.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. 0 - 12 feet and on occasion up to 20 feet such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person may need to lift arms to write on chalk or marking board and occasionally stoop kneel crouch and reach 0 - 24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed materialthe ability to adjust focus and exposure to screen(s) via technology. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is normally low to moderate but may become loud when large groups are together in a room. The employee may be required to move from room to room to provide instruction and may have to maneuver in crowded hallways. Duties are typically performed indoors and occasionally outdoors such as playground duty or when students are boarding or unloading buses. The employee may be exposed to unpredictable weather conditions. This position is typically performed in a hazard free clean and healthy environment.
