Job Description
Sugar Creek Charter School is seeking a passionate and innovativeCreative Movement Teacherto join our high school performing arts faculty. This position is ideal for a dynamic educator with a background in dance physical theater or movement arts who is committed to cultivating student expression body awareness and creative collaboration through movement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging creative movement curriculum aligned with educational standards and the schools mission.
- Teach a variety of movement-based courses (e.g. improvisational movement choreography physical expression body awareness).
- Integrate movement into cross-disciplinary collaborations (e.g. theater music wellness or visual arts).
- Foster a safe and inclusive studio environment that supports all students regardless of physical ability or prior experience.
- Direct and choreograph student performances or showcases as part of school events and productions.
- Evaluate and assess student progress providing regular feedback to students and parents.
- Participate in school meetings professional development and parent conferences as required.
- Collaborate with other arts faculty to support a cohesive and comprehensive arts program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Dance Movement Studies Performing Arts or a related field (Masters preferred).
- Teaching certification (or willingness to obtain if required by state).
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.
- Strong background in a range of movement practices (e.g. modern dance somatics theater movement cultural dance forms).
- Experience working with diverse student populations and incorporating inclusive teaching practices.
- Excellent communication organization and classroom management skills.
- Passion for creative education and fostering student growth through physical expression.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with devising original student work.
- Background in dance therapy yoga or movement for mindfulness.
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary arts integration.
