Custodian

TITLE: Custodian IC

Job Summary: The job of Custodian is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage loss and liability exposure ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe proper and timely manner and directing assigned custodians as necessary.

Essential Job Functions:

• Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings classroom activities and events.
• Cleans school facilities (i.e. classrooms offices multipurpose rooms bio-hazards grounds etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary safe and attractive environment.
• Delivers variety of items (e.g. supplies mail packages furniture etc.) for the purposedistributing the materials to the appropriate parties.
• Communicates necessary information to students other site personnel operations and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities scheduling energy conservation safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities.
• Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage loss andliability and ensuring safety at work site.
• Directs and trains personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements.
• Procures and safely stores equipment supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
• Maintains and repairs equipment (i.e. furniture plumbing electrical carpentry general mechanical areas etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available andin safe working condition.
• Supports school district policies and regulations in initiating outlining and supervising building maintenance and improvement projects for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary safe and attractive environment.
• Keeps the buildings and grounds in optimum operating condition and appearance through cleaning repair and maintenance for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary safe andattractive environment.
• Inspects the buildings on a daily basis at the beginning of the shift for a suitable learning environment paying particular attention to the work performed by the day custodian for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary safe and attractive environment.
• Cleans maintains and operates major equipment in the building (i.e. the boiler)
• Is responsible for the general safety and fire safety conditions and procedures of the building including playground equipment safety checks for the purpose ofmaintaining a safe environment.
• Is responsible for the general security of the building which may involve occasional off-duty hours as a result of vandalism or natural causes for the purpose of maintaining asafe and attractive environment.
• Maintains records (such as locker combinations fire extinguisher checks etc.) and makes changes as necessary for the purpose of providing accurate maintenance of safety and convenience in the building setting.
• Reports for duty as required in the event of an emergency school closure for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment and providing appropriate protection for the facility.
• Maintains a schedule in conjunction with the building administration of events for the purpose of ensuring that custodial needs are met.

Other Job Functions:

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Qualifications:

• Experience Required: Prior job related experience in school or institutional setting.
• Skills Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
• Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.
• Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials equipment and supplies safe work practices.
• Abilities to stand for prolonged periods follow oral and written instructions adhere to safe work practices work independently with minimal supervision perform a varietyof tasks adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice and communicate withstudents staff and parents. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping reaching/handling near/far visual acuity/depth perception.
• Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required:
• Oregon Fingerprint and Criminal Check clearance.

Work Shift: Monday through Friday PM Afternoon shift (8 hours per day) 260 days per year prorated on start date for the school year.
