The Ohio Attorney Generals Office is seeking an independent and highly motivated person for the position of Chief of Inspections in ourCorrectional Facilities Inspection Services (CFIS) section to oversee and direct the daily operations of the Correctional Facilities Inspection Services. The CFIS provides external oversight of Ohios correctional facilities both adult and juvenile by Inspecting facilities evaluating programs and reports on findings and recommendations. The headquartered location is 30 E. Broad St. Columbus Ohio. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The successful candidate will perform the following duties which include but are not limited to:

  • Hire train and supervise CFIS staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and develop inspection criteria based on applicable state and federal law Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections and Ohio Department of Youth Services standards.
  • Ensure inspection criteria and tools are developed continuously reviewed and revised to reflect current legal requirements agency standards and best practices.
  • Oversee the planning scheduling and conduct of onsite inspections of state correctional institutions private correctional facilities select local correctional facilities and youth services facilities as required by R.C. 109.39.
  • Participate in inspections and compare inspection findings against relevant correctional facility standards to determine compliance using inspection forms and other measuring resources.
  • Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective action.
  • Confer with correctional facility leadership regarding inspections findings and corrective action recommendations. When required confer with correctional facility leadership in the development and evaluation of programs to improve the condition or operation of facilities. Interact with inmates and prison staff at all levels.
  • Draft finalize and present annual CFIS report to the Ohio General Assembly. Consult with AGO leadership regarding CFIS responsibilities operations and efforts. Other job duties as assigned by AGO Administration.

The office consists of nearly 30 distinct sections that advocate for consumers and victims of crime assist the criminal justice community provide legal counsel for state offices and agencies and enforce certain state laws. In these and other capacities staff members interact with tens of thousands of Ohioans each year.

Completion of undergraduate core coursework in criminal justice or related field plus 5 yrs. additional training and experience in jail prison or youth facility operation & management.

Or 10 yrs. training or experience in jail youth facility or prison operation & management

Must have valid drivers license.
