Job Description

Overview

As a Psychiatric Nurse Job in London youll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others in the area. Youll work in various healthcare and social care settings across Londonas a Medicare People Psychiatric Nurse Job providing high-quality advanced support to individuals who require assistance due to factors such as age illness or disability.

We have a number of Psychiatric Nurse shifts available across different settings in London.

What Youll Do

  1. Patient Assessment

    • Evaluate patients mental health status.

    • Observe behavior mood and cognitive function.

    • Take medical histories and assess risk (e.g. suicide self-harm).

  2. Care Planning and Implementation

    • Develop individualized care plans.

    • Administer medications and monitor side effects.

    • Implement therapeutic interventions (e.g. CBT techniques de-escalation strategies).

  3. Crisis Intervention

    • Respond to psychiatric emergencies.

    • De-escalate aggressive or self-harming behavior.

    • Coordinate with crisis teams or emergency services.

  4. Support and Counseling

    • Provide emotional support and education to patients and families.

    • Encourage participation in therapy or group sessions.

    • Promote coping strategies and daily functioning.

  5. Collaboration and Communication

    • Work with psychiatrists psychologists social workers and other healthcare professionals.

    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.

    • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.

  6. Advocacy and Safeguarding

    • Protect patient rights and dignity.

    • Monitor for abuse or neglect.

    • Ensure care complies with legal and ethical standards (e.g. Mental Health Act patient consent).

  7. Rehabilitation and Community Support

    • Assist in discharge planning and community reintegration.

    • Liaise with community mental health services and support networks.

Requirements
  • NMC Registration: Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).

  • Nursing Qualification: A degree in Mental Health Nursing from an NMC-approved program.

  • International Nurses: Must pass IELTS/OET CBT and OSCE and have a valid UK work visa.

  • DBS Check: Enhanced criminal background check required.

  • Health Clearance: Up-to-date immunisations and occupational health approval.

  • Key Skills: Strong communication risk assessment crisis management and knowledge of the Mental Health Act.

  • Experience in medication administration and a sound understanding of care planning.
