ABOUT THE POSITION
The Mental Health Counselor for the Boyle County Day Treatment Program is focused on developing implementing supporting coordinating and assessing treatment plans (i.e. individual/group counseling self/career awareness life skills etc.) for youth with an emphasis on solution-focused skills..
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires:
- Professional credentials as one of the following:
- A psychologist with the health service provider designation a psychological practitioner a certified psychologist or a psychological associate licensed under the provisions of KRS Chapter 319 or
- A licensed clinical social worker licensed under the provisions of KRS 335.100 or a certified social worker licensed under the provisions of KRS 335.080 or
- A professional counselor credentialed under the provisions of KRS Chapter 335.500 to 335.599 (LPCC or LPCA).
- Three (3) years successful experience providing mental health and/or behavioral support with school-aged children is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are listed for reference. Success will involve the ongoing demonstration of desire and ability to perform responsibilities effectively efficiently pleasantly and with a focus on student success.
- Monitor student progress and behaviors providing necessary incentives and reinforcement while implementing treatment strategies.
- Provide individual and group counseling to address specific social/emotional/behavioral needs and continue to assess student progress.
- Identify difficulties that interfere with students attendance adjustment and achievement in school by utilizing established school procedures and supports and assists in the creation of innovative programming to address these barriers.
- Consult with school staff parents and community agencies to support students with scheduling and behavioral and/or mental health needs.
- Contact parents to obtain signed permission to work with the student to encourage parental involvement and further assess student needs.
- Maintain student transcripts and counseling records and statistical data for Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) audit and other program evaluation purposes.
- Assist with crisis intervention during critical incidents and assesses for safety as necessary.
- Develop intervention strategies and coordinates with appropriate school district and community resources to assist in community reintegration.
- Work with parents to help increase their understanding and constructive participation in appropriate efforts to help alleviate student problems.
- Assess needs of individual students and develop group counseling sessions to address identified needs.
- Apply knowledge of current research and theory to the development of assessment instruments and the ongoing needs of the Day Treatment mental health program.
- Plan and implement services based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students colleagues and parents with oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain working knowledge of mental health diagnoses applied behavioral analysis and applicable treatment modalities and theory.
- Carry out other professional responsibilities including punctuality reliability care of equipment and materials planning communication confidentiality and following district and school policies.
- Ability to use technology for a variety of purposes including but not limited to supporting instruction accessing and manipulating data professional growth and productivity communicating and collaborating with colleagues parents and the community and conducting research/solving problems. Proficiency in technology skills must be demonstrated based on the performance criteria set out in the KDE teacher standards for technology.
- Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Boyle County Board of Education the Employee Handbook Code of Ethics for Certified School Personnel and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
- Fulfilling contractual obligations of days worked.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regularly required to use hands for simple grasping and fine manipulatives.
- Regularly required to communicate effectively using speech vision and hearing.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
